View Full Version : My Mother's Fiancee Joked About My Vision

I recently had dinner at a restaurant with my mother, her fiancee and my sister. During dinner my sister mentioned that the bird they have wouldn't stop chirping. Earlier that day I was over at their house with my sister. She mentioned that she squirted the bird with a water bottle three times. When that didn't quiet the bird she had me squirt the bird once with the water bottle. I missed.

After hearing that, my mother's fiancee joked saying, "Oh great idea get the blind girl to squirt the bird." and he laughed. That joke/comment bothered me. Mainly because we were in a restaurant. I just didn't feel it was funny.

I wish I'd been there and heard that, I'd have slapped him into next week.

That joke/comment was definitely inappropriate no matter where it was said.

I am so sorry, Jenny. You are BEAUTIFUL, inside and out, and you have a little family here who honestly cares about you. They don't deserve someone as kind and generous as you. :bighug:

That was so uncalled for. I'm so sorry Jenny. :(

That's terrible. :( I'm sorry that happened to you. I would have found something about him to joke about but then again, why stoop to his level.
You are probably more mature than he will ever be.

Shame on him. Did he grow up in a barn or what? Talk about having no class or heart. I think it's lousy that your mother didn't say anything to him. Never joke about a person's disability. If someone said that about a kid of mine, they'd better run for cover. Monika's right, Jenny. We're all here for you and appreciate your inner and outer beauty.

The bf sounds like a Class A As*h&*le. Double triple quadruple shame on him. Never mind the barn he sounds like he came from beneath a rock. Perhaps one day he may have to deal with an illness or infirmity -- and then he'll see how remarks like that feel. You hang in there Jenny - you rock in our book!

He truly sounds like a disgusting human being.

Jenny, your future father-in-law is an uncouth moron. Please disregard anything he says in the future. Personally, I'd demand an apology from him or else I'd never speak to him again, but that's just me.

You can only control what you do, not what others do. As everyone else has said, you are valued here and I'm sure, by others as well. Hold your head high and don't let that slopebrow get to you.

You and your sister should have left the bird alone! That is animal cruelty!

I squirt my cats with a water bottle to keep them off the furniture, is that animal cruelty as well?

That's not animal cruelty. My own vet tells me to squirt our cats when they don't listen; just don't get them in the eyes. You know, Jenny is asking for advice for her serious human problem. She doesn't need to be reprimanded about a fews sprays of water and a bird. Jenny's a huge animal lover, and treats her animals like spoiled babies.

Yea I agree. That isn't animal cruelty. I used to squirt my cat with a water bottle too. It's harmless.

Jenny is an animal lover and wouldn't hurt them. This thread is supposed to be about Jenny's problem with her Mom's fiance not a bunch of nonsense.

Nah. What he said was in bad taste. Did you bring it to his attention? Does your mother know how you feel or if so, will she mention it to him? That is some trifling mess. Recently on facebook, I posted an old pic I found of my sister who recently survived breat cancer. One of my facebook friends playfully said it looked like me in drag. I tried to be cool but I was annoyed by the comment. When I said "no it doesn't", he kept pushing the envelope. When I said "That's my sister... the recent breast cancer survivor!", he changed his tune. I then sent him a message saying that I was annoyed by the comment because I am sensitve to the situation. He felt so bad and apologized. I couldn't even talk to him for three days. I know how you feel Jenny. How dare that man make a comment like that to you? You know have love and support from us here. Be blessed, sweetie.
