Family Guy‘s been on a relatively good run of late; more episodes are focusing on Brian and Stewie, the show’s two best characters, leaving Peter as a background presence, where he belongs. But they had a big time bomb with “Dark Side,” their Empire Strikes Back parody, following 2007′s fantastic “Blue Harvest.” What separates the two is that while “Blue Harvest” was a satire with clever jokes, “Dark Side” basically just re-told the plot of Empire, with no clever parodies and several recycled jokes from “Harvest”— including Chris pointing out that Robot Chicken already did a Star Wars parody (so did the Muppet Babies, for what it’s worth). To screw up The Empire Strikes Back, inarguably the greatest movie of all time, you deserve to be on a list of the worst episodes of the year.
