Was the Crystal Todd murder ever featured on UM? I know it has been on other shows. I have been trying to find out if her mother is still living, but no luck with googling.

Did you mean Crystal Faye Todd? If so, then no, UM never profiled the case, most likely because the case wasn't unsolved for very long. In fact, Crystal's murder took place in November 1991, and her friend Ken Register was arrested and charged with the crime a few months later.

I knew it was solved quickly. But had seen it profiled on other crime shows. Her mom looked pretty old at the time. I was wondering if she is still living. I felt so sorry for her. Looks like ID might be showing the case on a new show of theirs. At least I am betting it is the case.

When Crystal was born in 1974, her mother, Bonnie Faye Todd, was 39 or in her early 40s at the time. This was mentioned in the Forensic Files episode "The Alibi." Also, I read somewhere that Bonnie had lung cancer a few years ago, which leads me to suspect that she is no longer with us. :(

Thanks for that info, I had pretty much figured that to be her approx. age. When researching yesterday, I did see where she had cancer. And suspected she has passed. Just sad all around.

many years ago I read the book on her, and I've seen the case on one of the true crime shows and can't remember which one.

What were the particulars of the case? I'm intrigued since this was never on UM, but glad to hear it was solved!

She was a 17 yr old only child from Conway, SC who was murdered by one of her best friends after he raped her and mutilated her body. He then comforted her mother(widowed) during the search or the killer. He was even a pallbearer at her funeral. They caught him by DNA.

That's horrible! Thank God for (properly used) DNA. I hope he's in jail for life. Was the motive that she wouldn't see him as more than a friend or something along those lines? That's really tragic, to think one of her bests friends was responsible.

It has been so long since i read the book, I can't remember. I believe they met up late one evening after doing other things seperately, went riding around and he ended up raping her and it led to the murder. He had a good reputation, but it came to light that he had been arrested for exposing himself to two younger teens in another nearby town.So he is clearly disturbed.

I recall that the case was featured on the now-defunct TV show City Confidential, in addition to Forensic Files. Other shows might have highlighted the case, but so far I'm able to confirm only CC and FF as the ones that have done so.

This happened down the road from my grandparents farmhouse. In fact, there are a couple of Register's buried in our family cemetary. Hope I'm not related to that guy, but looks like I am, at least by marriage.
