As a child star of the hit series Full House, Candace Cameron Bure had to weather life's most awkward stages – baby fat and all – on national television.

Now 35, she's never been in better shape. Her secret? A pro-athlete husband, three active kids and lessons learned from a never-before-revealed battle with bulimia.

"It's a very dangerous cycle that can just start to consume your life and really take over," Cameron Bure tells PEOPLE. In her new book Reshaping It All, the actress reveals that she began binging and purging after Full House ended its run in 1995 and she was adjusting to life in Canada with her new husband, Russian-born NHL player Valeri Bure.

"It wasn't about me trying to lose weight," says Cameron Bure, whose older brother is Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron. "It was all about emotions."

Now at a healthy weight, the star of the ABC Family series Make It or Break It says she stays svelte thanks to plenty of family exercise time with Bure, 36, and kids Natasha, 12, Lev, 10, and Maks, 8, and a diet philosophy that allows everything – including her self-professed "weakness," dessert! – in moderation.

FYI: A myth to debunk: Kirk Cameron's IMDB listing lists his date of birth as October 12, 1970. Guess what that info is--FALSE! The real truth, according to E! Entertainment Television, contrary to what I, like the rest of you think, used to believe is this--in actuality, Kirk's 100% correct date of birth is October 12, 1969.

Here's the main evidence--Kirk, now age 41, graduated high school in 1988. Before the Kennedy assassination, if you attended public school and were born in a calendar year a la 1958, whether you were born New Year's Eve or New Year's Day, you graduated high school with those born in the calendar year. Little do most of you know, and the following I will say is historically accurate, after Lyndon Baines Johnson took over for President in late 1963, LBJ signed into law a law that took effect in 1965 that still exists today--if you were born after September 1 of a given calendar year, and attended public school, you were automatically cut off into the next grade.

Case in point: my cousin, Daniel Stephen Hooley, born December 9, 1984. Had Danny been born August 9, 1984, he would have graduated high school in 2002, but since he was born December 9, 1984, Danny graduated high school in 2003.

Likewise with Kirk Cameron, who was born October 12, 1969--when Kirk wasn't being tutored on the "Growing Pains" set every 4th week, he attended public school and graduated high school in 1988, information from Kirk's "E! True Hollywood Story" episode included as part of "Growing Pains THS."

Similarly with Candace, who graduated from public high school in 1993, at age 18. Sure, Candace's IMDB listing lists her date of birth as April 6, 1976, but that's FALSE--she was actually born on April 6, 1975.

It's not that uncommon for showbiz actors to shave years off their ages to make themselves younger for parts in film and/or TV.

Sometimes, the actor's true age isn't revealed until AFTER their demise.

Case in point: Eddie Albert, who shaved 2 years off his true age to make himself younger when he started in showbiz.

The most surprising thing, on a personal note, I learned about Kirk from his memoir "Still Growing," published in April 2008, written in 2007 about the first 37 years of his life as of when the book was written, was that, during his initial teen-idol peak, his & Candace's parents, Rob and Barbara, divorced in 1986 after 17 years of marriage and 2 celebrity children.

Soon after Kirk's religious conversion, which happened after making the movie "Like Father, Like Son" in 1987, at age 17, Rob & Barbara reconciled and eventually remarried.

Today, at age 41, Kirk Cameron is a famous evangelical preacher.

I'm sure all of Candace's family members including big brother Kirk know about her struggles with this serious issue.

No offense, but why the obsession with Kirk Cameron's age? I've seen several posts from you about it.

To answer your question, I'm just correcting his age, like I have several other times--all of which I learned about Kirk through E! Entertainment.

Interesting article on Candace. I am sure her family knows about her battles, and I doubt she would go public about it without telling her family first.

Also, I have to respectfully disagree with you on the age issue. I believe they were born in 1970 and 1976. Those are the dates I have read for years, and most teen stars do not lie about their age to appear younger. Also, not every state follows that Sept. 1 guideline for public schooling. I believe that in California a child must be 5 years old by January 1, which would make it possible that Kirk started school at age 4 and graduated at 17. I don't know when Candance graduated, but if it was 1993, I would assume that had something to do with private tutoring she received on the Full House set as she was most likely not in public school the whole time (actually, that goes for Kirk as well who was privately tutored on the set of Growing Pains.)

Actually, I was incorrect. The cutoff is December 2, but Kirk still would have made the cutoff date.

I too had read that for YEARS, Zelda, but it wasn't until 2006 when I learned the real truth through E! Entertainment about Kirk & Candace. CASE CLOSED!

I am not trying to argue with you, I am just curious as to how one source (E! Entertainment) is considered to be more accurate than numerous other sources on the matter?

Well, Zelda, I appreciate your curiosity.

Here's how I understand it: the law that LBJ signed for the cutoff date being September 1 in 1965 affected ALL public schools in the U.S.

Having been born on October 12, 1969, according to the "E! True Hollywood Story: Growing Pains," Kirk didn't QUITE make the cutoff date in public schools.

Likewise with Candace having graduated in 1993--sure, they were BOTH tutored on the set as kids (I'm just being truthful here, not to start being argumentative), but let's set the record straight:

Kirk & Candace's parents, Rob and Barbara, met in 1968 when Barbara was a rising high-school grad and Rob was just starting his career as a math teacher and gym coach in middle school near Los Angeles.

Within a year, Barbara was pregnant with Rob's baby.

5 1/2 months into the pregnancy, Rob and Barbara married on June 22, 1969.

3 1/2 months later, on October 12, was when Kirk entered the world.

CASE CLOSED!

Again, this is not correct. In California the cutoff to begin school is 5 years old by December 2. If you do not believe me, go to the California Department of Ed. and see for yourself.

Age-Eligible Children: Districts must admit children at the beginning of the school year (or whenever they move into a district) if they will be five years of age on or before December 2 of the school year (EC Section 48000[a]).

Kirk also lists his birthday as October 12, 1970 on his official facebook page. If Kirk is truly as dedicated to his Christianity as he claims (and I believe he is) I do not think he would continue to lie about something as ridiculous as his age, especially in this day and age when practically everything a celebrity says can be proven or disproven with a little investigation.

I will stop posting on this now, especially since you said "CASE CLOSED" twice. Since I really don't care how old Kirk and Candace are, it is silly for me to keep posting about it anyway. :)

No matter how old (or young) they are I admire them both for standing up and showing their faith when that is not always an easy thing to do in Hollywood!

They also seem to be the official source in regards to Jeremy Miller's correct age.

On a related note: according to "The E! THS," Jeremy Miller, youngest son Ben on "Growing Pains," his IMDB entry lists his birthdate as October 21, 1976. WRONG! Actually, Jeremy was born October 21, 1975--a fact attributed by E! Entertainment when they mentioned Jeremy graduated high school in 1994.

This makes at least 4 threads on the subject.

If anyone was going to lie about their age they would almost certainly change it by more than one year!!!
