The Partridge Family for Being the Partridge Family: So, what was Milli Vanilli's Grammy crime again? That Rob and Fab didn't really sing on their hit records? That they were essentially playing pop stars—um, with apologies to David Cassidy, pretty much just like the sitcom-spawned Partridges who rated a 1970 Best New Artist nom?

There is a big difference between The Partridge Family and Milli Vanilli. The Partridge Family and the producers behind them never tried to pretend that the cast was really singing. They were pretty open from the beginning about studio musicians apearing on the albums. Milli Vanilli on the other did try to convince the world they were really singing. Also they were passing themselves off as a legitimate music group. The Partridge Family never did. The Partridge Family was a fictional band created for a TV show that sold a few albums to promote said TV show. Milli Vanilli's crime wasn't lip synching it was lying and attempting to pass themselves off as something they weren't.

THAT plus the fact that two of the group's members, Cassidy and Jones, actually DID sing on the albums.

Exactly!
The Partridge Family did get a Grammy Nomination for Best New Artist.
The award went to 'The Carpenters".
In David Cassidy's bio sheets that he puts out they have him down as being Grammy nominated even though it was not for his solo efforts but for the Partridge Family.
David had no control over the material he sand and his voice was modified to sound like a 16 year old.
I often wondered if they have won this award, who would accept it?
