The final season on NBC of "Matlock",left a little bit to be desired.By that,I mean that it had too many(and why this was,I'll never know)"age"references-e.g.,Matlock accused of being too old.And the old cracks got old awfully fast.Oh,sure, there were some good stories that season, but somehow it WASN'T the same as the shows early on.And a question:Why did NBC move it from a comfortable Tuesday Night slot to Friday?

My ratings-1)good-"The Game Show","Mr.Awesome" ,"The Assassination" 2)fair-to-good "The Suspect","The Evening News","The Marriage Counselor","The Outcast" ,"The Strangler""The Foursome"3)fair-"The Big Payoff",The Dame" 4-fair to poor -"The Nightmare","The Witness Killings"

And also fair-to-poor "The Abduction"

And another one that was fair-to-poor,was "The Picture".Only the late Don Knotts made it fairly palatable. But as for Matlock's cousin who was accused of murder, she was downright obnoxious, and Matlock should have refused to defend her. That is one episode in which I didn't CARE whether she was found guilty or not.(As usual,Matlock found her NOT GUILTY)

And in season 6,the last NBC season,(and all the ABC episodes)creator Dean Hargrove took his name OFF the executive producer title(Andy Griffith took over that role -obviously Hargrove and Griffith did NOT get along too well),or write any scripts that season. Why was this?

Regarding the age cracks in the scripts: While the next season (7) had fewer direct references, I felt to some extent that the character of Leanne, being Matlock's daughter, didn't hold Ben in quite as high an esteem as Michelle had. However, I'll add quickly that I enjoyed Brynn Thayer's performance -- and it's great that her season has finally made it to DVD.
