I was reading in some local papers that certain areas of New York are wanting to go about making a law saying that you must be 19 and older to purchase energy drinks.


Lawmakers are saying that these drinks, such as Red Bull and Monster, are damaging too many of today's youth as they are becoming more and more addicted to them; especially the drinks that contain alcohol.


What do you think of restricting the age to purchase energy drinks?

If they decide to put a restriction up I feel it should be 17 or 18 instead of 19. Being a college student I know the benefit of energy drinks around finals week. They are terrible for you and I agree that children should not have them but there are benefits as well and i definitely feel college students need access to them. And the 18 year old freshman should not have to have an older friend buy their energy drinks as they do the alcohol.

I'm thinking they are making the age 19 so that they can be sure that these drinks will not be available to high school students. There are a lot of 18 year olds in high school.

Here's an idea: Why not have parents monitor their children's activities and tell them that they don't want them to drink energy drinks?

Why does there need to be legislation to perform tasks that ultimately are the responsibility of the children's parents? If you don't feel up to the task of caring for and training your children...do everybody a favor and don't have children.

If they restrict the age for energy drinks they'll just make them more appealing to kids and teenagers.And in my opinion energy drinks are a scam anyhow. The main ingredient they have that gives people a little kick is caffeine.---Why not just have a cup or 2 of black coffee,it's much better for you,much less money and has plenty of caffeine.

Unless the kid is living at home and commuting to college, it wouldn't be possible for a parent to monitor what the kid is eating or drinking.

It's not really the responsibility of the parents in this case, it's really the responsibility of the kids themselves.

But, you are 100% correct about "training" the child to do the right thing, and you are 100% correct in that it's ridiculous for Congress to get involved in this kind of stuff.

Having said that, any drinks that contain alcohol need to be treated as any other alcoholic beverage would be.

When I see stuff like this, it makes me wonder how I ever managed to make it through college, when I wasn't even a coffee drinker at the time, and the only thing being marketed (at that time) as an "energy drink" was Yoo-Hoo.

Energy drinks with alcohol in them should be restricted. They're a dumb idea anyway - why would anyone want to drink something that is going to keep you awake and depress you at the same time? (remember, folks - alcohol is a depressant)

As far as the energy drinks that DON'T contain alcohol - leave them alone! Today's teens are so loaded up with stuff to do (school, homework, sports, extracurricular activities that their parents make them do to keep them off the streets till they get home) it's amazing they get any sleep at all! They need the stuff!

yes it is totaly right to restrict who are under age,as these energy drinks have lots of side effects
