If you had to get rid of cable and could only keep a couple of channels, what would they be?They could be either network or cable channels...

I would keep all the broadcast networks plus ESPN and probably Fox News/MSNBC (I like watching two different Americas lol). TV Land, TBS, and MTV would probably be next but I could live without them

As far as I'm concerned, they can get rid of over half their channels. Most of it's crap. If there was a classic tv channel, I'd keep that too.

The encore westerns channel, Turner Classics and maybe PBS are "must have" tv stations. There are a few others I view on occasion, but can manage fine without them. Not many good tv stations left.---A few years ago I would also have mentioned TVLand, but since they ruined their tv station, they are basically worthless now.

Antenna TV and MeTV. Do you really need any more?

Well, back in the old days, when there was good programming on nearly every day and night, TV sets had only 12 channels. So on my list, I'm only having 12 channels:

Antenna TV
Me TV
Teletoon Retro
ABC
CBS
NBC
TCM
Silver Screen Classics (a Canadian channel that is like TCM which shows lots of old movies)

The rest are all sports channels, which for me means only one thing: lots of hockey!

TSN
Rogers Sportsnet Ontario
LEAFS TV
Versus

Well, back in the old days, when there was good programming on nearly every day and night, TV sets had only 12 channels. So on my list, I'm only having 12 channels:

Wow, you must be MUCH younger than me. Back when I was a kid we only had 4 channels and I lived in a large city.
I will also add: Back in the stone ages something excellent was on each and every night. In fact it seemed we always found something good to watch anytime we turned on the set. I miss those days so much! Now we struggle to find shows our family wants to watch and we don't like Reality, so it leaves very little. My daughter has told me more than once that even when she was growing up TV was suitable for kids on the basic networks, you had to worry about cable. These days she is scared to allow the kids to just turn on the TV so it's not allowed unless the family watches together so they can decide if it's family friendly, little is.
The good side of this....my grandchildren make straight A's and read a great deal.

So true, there was always something good to watch day or night. The big three networks(ABC,CBS,NBC) used to produce such great television, not the garbage they do now.And when cable was introduced it was good in the beginning and offered extra variety for a number of years, but has now basically turned into a scam. There are just to many tv stations nowadays and most of them are not worth a penny.

Although I'm Canadian, I'll just include the American ones as that's probably more relevant to the other members:

- TBS
- WGN America
- Nickelodeon
- ABC Family
- Teenick
- ESPN + ESPN family
- MTV Hits
- VH1 Classic
- Travel Channel
- TV Land
- Hallmark Channel
- Locals (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW - WPIX 11, KTLA, WSBK (TV 38 Boston))

That's about it I'd say. Oh, and NBA TV!

I'd get rid of cable entirely. You can find most classic shows on DVD/streaming services. Sports can be watched online as well. There's literally no reason to keep cable unless you like watching nonstop reruns of reality shows
