Aunt Clara was a pretty wise old gal.In first season's black and white episode "Samantha Meets the Folks",the first appearance of Darrin(Dick York)'s parents,she realized --without anyone telling her --that she'd be in the way.His mother brought the point home,that she WASN'T, and made her feel at home so Darrin had nothing to worry about.And that's one of the reasons Samantha,Darrin,and lots of people liked Aunt Clara-she was bumbling,sweet,always got Darrin's named right,unlike Endora and Maurice,and always stuck up and sided with Darrin and Samantha when the going got tough.

Aunt Clara was a doll, pure and simple. Samantha could be herself around her aunt - something she couldn't do nearly as easily with her own mother, Endora.
