"CSI": Meet Gil Grissom's Mom
Dec 9, 2010
by Joyce Eng

Tony winner Phyllis Frelich will guest-star on "CSI" as Gil Grissom's mother, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Frelich will appear in the Feb. 3 episode, which revolves around a murder at a school for the deaf, where Grissom's mother is a professor.

Mrs. Grissom will butt heads with the newest Mrs. Grissom — Sara (Jorja Fox), Gil's wife — who works the case. It turns out Mama Grissom has another woman in mind for her son: her protégé and Gil's ex, to be played by Marlee Matlin.

William Petersen, who left the show two seasons ago, will not reprise his role as Grissom in the episode.

Frelich, who is deaf, won a Tony for her work in the 1980 Broadway production of Children of a Lesser God.
The 1986 film adaptation of the play won Marlee Matlin an Oscar for her performance.

This should be interesting. In reality Phyllis Frelich is not that much older than William Petersen. Introducing Grissom's mother into the mix could really point up the strangeness of Sarah being on the show again this long without her husband, though. I know how it was explained initially, but after all this time......

Also never heard that Gil had an ex-wife until now. Maybe this episode will explain alot of things.

:lol: Oh man, I *know* Phyllis Frelich. Her whole family, in fact. I did the short bio for her on IMDB years ago that is still on her page.

I didn't get to catch the episode when it originally aired, but I hear it was nothing short of awesome. I hope this brings on more regular screentime for her!
