Yes, Alice Hyatt worked hard at Mel's diner, but do you think she could've done more to advance herself and support Tommy than being a waitress???
Yes, I know, I know, it is only a sitcom, but for discussion purposes, what do you think? Agree? Disagree?

This is laughs but i think she was pretty comfortable with her job as a waitress..what would you feel she should be doing when she had a mouth to feed which was her son? Its so easy to say, hmm..go back to school and work but who is taking care of the son?? Her son seemed like a handful as it was. What i dont get is why the other brunette was there? the smart one of the bunch? why? she didnt have to work that job..I mean gosh she could have found several high paying jobs in that time plus she had the look to get into fashion or corporate america..so im confused with her decision!

She seems to have been portrayed as being somewhat lazy and not very bright. She was an attractive woman that could also sing and dance. She certainly could have obtained at least a better waitressing job than one at a hash house that didn't even serve good food.
That was one of the many unbelievable elements of the show; that a woman as smart as Alice was presented as being, would have satisfied herself w/ the job that she did.

It's not the kind of job you do, it's how well you do it.
Alice did very well with what she was given. It wasn't her choice to be a waitress, but she did it anyway and it paid off in the final episode. Alice always had chances to get out, which all ended up being busts, so by working at Mel's, she was just biding her time. I understand because i'm in her same situation.

What I did not understand about Alice was what she was making at the diner and she wore sharp looking clothes when she was not in her waitress outfit. I do understand her fulfilling her dream as a singer so she was working there until her break came along. It did at the final episode. Glad they did not marry her off.
