Peter Billingsley, who played the lead character as a child in the movie "A Christmas Story"--Ralphie--is overseeing a musical stage adaptation of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Billingsley was just 12 when he starred as 9-year-old Ralphie, the kid who wanted a Red Ryder air rifle for Christmas.

According to the report, Billingsley said about the 1983 film that it's "always meant a lot to me personally. I'm excited to bring this film to the stage because the story and the characters lend themselves so well to the world of musicals."

The Jean Shepard book on which the film was based will be fodder for the musical. At the time of its release, "A Christmas Story" was not a hit. However, the repeated showings on television every year since have made "A Christmas Story" a holiday classic.

The article says that "A Christmas Story: The Musical!" will play at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre and includes an original score from Broadway composing duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Billingsley added, "I am honored to be a part of this project and look forward to bringing the play to more stages. Just think about the idea of a leg-lamp kickline."

Bad idea. I saw a clip of something similar on YouTube and it wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen, but it was up their. Maybe it's my hatered of musicals, tho.

I can see the song titles now, "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out," "The Queen Mother of All Dirty Words," and "Fragile: It's a Major Award!"

Yeah, that aint working.
