CHICAGO (AP) - The last two families in the only high-rise left at Chicago's Cabrini-Green housing complex have 10 days to leave. The Chicago Housing Authority has sought an emergency order to close the building and a judge ruled today it's more dangerous to keep the 134-unit high-rise open for two families than it is to move them.

I thought they already were torn down.

They were mostly torn down during the late 90's and early 2000's.
They were (and are) being replaced by expensive condos and a gentrified neighborhood.

Good end to a bad idea.

How will they build Condo's if the area is still the HOOD?

It's less than a mile from the lake.
That they built the projects there in first place was always controversial. And the neighborhoods surrounding it have been steadily improving.

It really is a nice area and unfortunately they allowed the projects to become a blight.

I remember back when former Mayor Jane Byrne went to live there while she was in office. I think the idea was to show that the area was safe in general way back then.

There was even a parody song done, "Cabrini Green Where The Mayor Sleeps" to the tune of "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap." Yikes!
