View Full Version : UM cases featured on other true crime shows?
Zlatko 12-01-2010, 01:34 PM Since a lot of the cases featured on UM have been shown on other true crime programs, I think it would be worthwhile to list which cases have been on various true crime shows. Here are some off the top of my head.
-TK Hardy - City Confidential
-Niqi McCown - Disappeared
-East Area Rapist - Cold Case Files
Feel free to add more.
DarkDante 12-01-2010, 01:57 PM The case of Charles Horvath was featured on a Canadian program entitled "Lost Treasures" which seemed to mirror UM in many ways. Canadian actor Al "King Of Kensington" Waxman served as the host and in many ways seemed to mimic Robert Stack.
The main differences between the two series was that the reenacments on "Lost Treasures" were done in the style of soap opera dramatics allowing the actors to act a bit more than the actors did on "Unsolved Mysteries" but beyond that it's very easy to see how the "Lost Treasures" people patterned their series after "Unsolved Mysteries".
PS: You can view the Horvath "Lost Treasures" segment on a certain site as it's been uploaded there by Charles' mother Denise Horvath-Allan.
zack007attack 12-01-2010, 02:55 PM Forensic Files:
1) Dennis Smith (this was the first FF episode I ever saw and got me into the show. coincidentally, in this episode they played an excerpt from the Dennis Smith UM segment)
2) Patty Stallings
3) Dana Satterfield
4) Dorothy Donovan
I know there are probably plenty of other UM cases also featured on FF. Can anyone here list the rest of them? thanks.
cocytus 12-01-2010, 03:09 PM Darlie Routier's story was featured on several different programs.
TracyLynnS 12-01-2010, 04:36 PM The murders of Grant Hendrickson and Michelle Cartagena is on the ID network's "Unusual Suspects". Andrew Cook, the son of an FBI agent, was convicted of killing the couple.
nicoge21 12-01-2010, 05:22 PM Rick Church (killed his ex-girlfriends family) was featured on America's Most Wanted way back when. That case is solved though.
carebears 12-01-2010, 06:11 PM David Richard Davis who injected his wife Shannon Mohr with a drug was featured on other true crime shows like American Justice and Forensic Files.
Jason K 12-01-2010, 10:41 PM The notorious arsonist-videographer has been on RealTV and Cold Case Files. I've seen the RealTV segment and have been eagerly searching for the CCF episode, which I hear shows much more of the videotape, including the arsonist in his basement, chanting under a mask.

I've seen the CCF segment of it. They also mention how the case was shown on UM, and show footage of the arsonist in his basement, engaging in satanic rituals. But he's wearing some kind of mask the whole time and we never see his face, let alone know his identity.

I can name some, along with the FF episode titles:
Mia Zapata ("The Day The Music Died")
Darlie Routier ("Invisible Intruder")
Dan Short ("Stick 'Em Up")
John Hawkins ("Mistaken For Dead")
Dave Davis ("Horse Play")

I saw that several years ago. The UM segment of his "Look at it Omar. I said I'd do it" narration is nothing compared to the creepiness of the rest of that guy's home movies.
Jason K 12-03-2010, 04:41 PM Does anyone know the title of the Cold Case Files episode on the videographer-arsonist? I have been searching for it for quite some time and am determined to track it down one day.
TracyLynnS 12-03-2010, 07:08 PM I think the "omar arsonist" CCF episode is called "Fire Flicks". The name is on the A&E site in their episode guide. Hopefully this link will take you to the info:

Jason K 12-04-2010, 12:43 AM I really wish there was a way to see that; I'd even pay to see it if it were available somewhere, like Amazon Video-on-Demand. :-(
carebears 12-12-2010, 08:44 PM In the Diabotical Mind UM Special they had the case of Joanne Rodgers and her daughters Michelle and Kristy that were 13 and 17 when they took a vacation to Florida and were killed on a man's boat.Oba Chandler was sentenced to death for killing them. The Rodgers murder case was featured on UM,The New Detectives and this past weekend on Friday night and early Saturday morning they had the case featured on Forensic Files.
Jacklyn Dowalably murder case was featured on UM and American Justice.
crystaldawn 12-13-2010, 09:59 AM Just watched the new episode of Forensic Files Friday night and it was about the Roger's family who was murdered by Oba Chandler. Not really any new information except (and maybe UM featured this and I just don't remember) but did say he was caught when they had a billboard with the handwriting of directions found in the Roger's things asking if anyone knew who it belonged to. A woman came forward who vaguely knew Chandler and they were able to conclusively identify it as his after viewing some other paperwork he had written.
Zlatko 12-19-2010, 06:38 PM The Michael Swango case was featured on Investigative Reports. It's available on Amazon.
SageSlowdive 12-20-2010, 08:38 PM The Orange Socks Murders were feature on the psychic show "Sensing Murder". You can see it on that forbidden video site ;)
Zlatko 01-12-2011, 04:04 PM The Molly Bish case will be featured on the Discovery ID show "Disappeared" next Monday.
Zlatko 03-01-2011, 10:13 PM The Leah Roberts case was recently shown on ID's Disappeared.
It's impressive how they've already got 3 UM cases under their belt in one season.
Zlatko 03-24-2011, 09:31 PM The Rachel Cooke case will be featured on 'Disappeared' on April 4th. Yet another case also shown on UM.
It's great that Disappeared is reviving new interest in so many case.
