Kevin Williamson is in ultra-early stages of a Vampire Diaries companion series for The CW described as "The X-Files meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (um ... a vampire who investigates paranormal crimes? ... dour FBI agents hunting bantering vampires?). Sources note there's no deal in place, and no script, and it's not a spinoff, it's only "companion series" in that it could be paired with Vampire Diaries as a supernatural combo (what about Nikita? What indeed...). But, hey, it's Vampire Diaries and Williamson so...

We might have to wait another month and a half for a new episode of "The Vampire Diaries", but here's a treat to help tide us over until then:




Creator Kevin Williamson gave Entertainment Weekly new details about the recently announced companion series he's writing.

"It's set on a college campus," he said.

"There's a little bit of some paranormal investigation involved, but it's more about the characters. It's more about what Julie and I like to do, which is create a world of people. A young girl goes to college, and it turns out there's a lot more going on."






As for the reports that the still-developing show will be like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" crossed with "The X-Files"? False.

"That's exactly what the show is not," Williamson said.

"That was the wrong characterization. I was like, 'What is 'Buffy' meets 'The X-Files'? They're completely at odds tonally. It's neither."

Deadline is reporting that Kevin Williamson's potential companion series to "Vampire Diaries" is not happening, at least for now. Williamson has notified the CW that he has too much of a busy schedule



Kevin Williamson has come onboard another CW drama project, "Secret Circle", which is based on three-book series from The Vampire Diaries author L.J. Smith.
