He waited until he was in his 60’s, but famed American filmmaker David Lynch celebrated Thanksgiving by preparing for the official release of his first single as a solo artist (via TwentyFourBit).

British imprint Sunday Best released “Good Day Today” — plus its B-side, “I know” — on iTunes today, with a physical release to follow on January 31st. What’s more, Lynch says the ultimate goal is to release a full-length album of original music.

When asked about the electro-pop feel of “Good Day”, Lynch told The Guardian that he “loves electricity, so it sort of stands to reason that I would like electronics,” and while his explanation is a bit redundant, he did end up expounding on his writing process a bit more clearly.

Lynch said that he built himself a custom studio to allow him to explore sound, and that the song came out of nowhere. “I was just sitting and these notes came,” he said, “then I went down and started working with Dean [Hurley, his engineer] and then these few notes, ‘I want to have a good day, today’ came and the song was built around that.”
