I have a sports buddy who used to post on the sports board all the time but now he only posts about sports on facebook and no longer comes to the sports board. Me on the otherhand I do both-lol Just wondering what makes people post on FB more.

I thought so lol Mike is absolutely obsessed with FB he posts on there almost 24/7.

Quite simply, Facebook just has a more broad appeal than Sitcoms Online. And by nature as a social network, it should.

I post on Facebook WAY more than I post on Sitcoms Online. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 98%/2% ratio.

I post on fB way more than SO too, but I still post on both.

Facebook has much broader appeal as Brad correctly pointed out. I'm Facebook friends with all my great SO friends like Mattie, Billie, Jude, Kristen, Cathy among others, so I just find myself posting less here because my involvment with SO had a great deal to do with those people. I'm also FB friends people who I went to school with or worked with, who would have no idea what Sitcoms Online is. Also, you can be Facebook friends with authors and other public figures.

I love posting here but you'll never catch me on Facebook. My brothers are always after to me start an account there but I have no desire to. I also want no contact with anyone I went to school with which is the primary reason I refuse to join.

I see your point. I felt that same way. I had to be dragged kicking and screaming to join Facebook. :lol: However, you'll find that many of the people that you went to high school with have matured.

I used to feel the exact same way. But I eventually gave in and checked Facebook out. The great thing about Facebook is that you can choose who to be friends with and who not to friends with. You don't have to have contact with anyone you don't want to. You have the choice to ignore anyone you don't want to be in contact with. That being said Facebook will never ever replace S.O. They are two different websites and fulfill different purposes (although there is some overlap) which is why I regularly visit both places.

I don't want any contact with anyone I went to school with either. I actually looked a few up to see if they were on Facebook and sure enough they were. lol

The idea is for YOU to control who YOU want on your friends list. IMO that's no reason not to join FB. If you don't want to be friends with someone there, then don't accept their friend request.

Most of my family is on there. It's good to be able to keep up with them every day

It's a valid enough reason for me, I don't want to be bothered with any friend requests from anyone from my past. By not joining, I don't have to waste my time. I also found out that some busy-body added my name to the list of students from my class that hadn't signed up for classmates.com. I had to contact the website to get my named removed from the list.

You should give it a try, you might like it. :) You can always deleate your account later if you don't like it. Also, its a great way to meet people who share common interets with you. There are FB pages for pretty much any TV show you can think of and some of them have members into the millions!:)

My brothers can have Facebook, they criticize me all the time for being a member here at SO and not FB so the feeling is mutual.

I thought I was the only one in the world who didn't use FB, but I see I'm not. I am an intensely private person and feel uncomfortable posting too much personal info. I don't know much about FB.

For those who use FB regularly, I would like to get your take on something that happened recently where I live that involves FB.

A couple of weeks ago, a 14 year old daughter of an NHL assistant coach committed suicide. A facebook page was set up in her memory which was destroyed by trolls that kept on posting pornographic pictures. The police were even called in but said there was nothing they could do since these individuals weren't threatening anyone. Anyway, a local woman took it upon herself to track down these individuals and succeded in tracking down one of them who lives in New Mexico. He said that he was paid by someone to troll facebook memorial sites & destroy them. He said that it wasn't the person that died that they were attacking but the people who start these facebook memorial sites.

That's why people can set up their account not to even get friend requests.....

I think as long as there are still folks who like to maintain at least some degree of anonymity and privacy, there will always be a place on the internet for sites like Sitcoms Online.

Some people use FB because they think it gives them some degree of "fame". And, as demographics change, the younger folks won't think it's any big deal to post a lot of person info about themselves. For that reason, I think Facebook is going to continue to grow at a pretty good clip, unless some major security breach drives people away from it.

Other folks use it to genuinely try to reconnect with friends from their past, or with relatives that might be scattered all over the country/world.

There are good uses for both types of sites. "Private" ones like Sitcoms Online and more public ones such as FB.
