Rogers, Ark. -- Five days before the Black Friday door-buster sales begin, shoppers are already staking their claims in line to be the first to get the super deals. Robert Smith and his brother set up their tents in front of the Best Buy in Rogers on Sunday to make sure they were first in line this year since they were beaten last year. "It's not just the prices, it's a traditional thing. We've been out here the past three years," Smith said. This year, the Smiths are going for the televisions, laptops and X-Box 360. Smith said this is the earliest they've set up camp. He said most people show up Wednesday or Thursday. Last year, Smith estimates there were more than 300 people waiting in line early Friday morning.

PlayOn 11-22-2010, 10:57 AM Hard core. We don't camp out. We leave at the crack of dawn and if we miss something, we miss something. Their's always ebay.
catlover79 11-22-2010, 11:33 AM I would never, ever do that. Not only do crowds make me feel sick, holiday crowds are that much worse. Thank goodness for online shopping!!!
old grouch 11-22-2010, 02:53 PM The last place I will go on Black Friday is a department store, especially at 3AM. I need my beauty sleep.
OH Nuts! 11-22-2010, 03:10 PM I made the mistake of getting sucked into Black Fridaylast year, and you know what, 80% of those so-called bargain prices came back during the holiday season later. And those few drop-dead great deals, well...what you go through in stress (and potential danger) may not make those worth it....so...I'll just shop one of those later times or wait for deep discounts galore shopping out of season & waiting for the next "right" weather cycle. And I gotta lot of clothes shopping to do...now that I've dropped 30 lbs. most of my stuff is too big for me (I love it! yay Weight Watchers!)

I wouldn't camp out at a store for days no matter what great deals they were offering. I also will not go near any stores during that entire weekend. There are just too many wild & crazy people out there fighting over the merchandise.
Retro4Life 11-22-2010, 10:41 PM What is going on in these people's lives that they have time to camp out in front of a store for days on end? Moreover, what is lacking in their souls that they value shopping so much that they are willing to sacrifice so much time? How much time could they have donated to charity work, talked to friends or family, started a project around the house, during that time?
Argh. I will never understand people.
MickeyMac 11-23-2010, 07:14 PM I dont go anywhere near stores on Black Friday

Amen to that -you said it better than I ever could!
ponytail 11-24-2010, 06:28 AM I am done with my Christmas shopping. I don't care about these sales. I will be working Friday anyway and if I had the day off I would not be out with these people. I know people who can't wait for this Friday and good for them. It's madness to me.
catlover79 11-24-2010, 01:44 PM My sister lives for Black Friday - not me!! I plan to stay home and sleep late!! To me, that's much more stimulating!!
waichingliu81 11-24-2010, 03:31 PM wasn't it last year or a few years ago there was a story where someone had died during a black friday stampede at a store?
still, what about doing their shopping in the next few days, weeks? no need to get their bargains this friday.
MrCleveland 11-24-2010, 05:52 PM Just give me this "Black Friday"!...

Yes, a Wal-Mart employee (in New York State somewhere, I believe) was trampled to death when the doors opened on Black Friday a couple of years back. Sad, sad, sad. Greed at its worst.

horrible just horrible. the mentality of some of those people who do it is just, well, words can't express how awful that was.
perhaps stores should have people forming a queue or something to avoid masses of people charging through the doors.
