It's hard to choose because each one had such interesting characters. But if I have to choose I will say home life during the earlier seasons and work life in the later seasons. I also like when Mary's two lifes come together, such as when she throws one of her disasterous parties, or when Phyllis went to work for Mary at the newsroom.

Hmm, interesting question. I like both, but I think I prefer her work life better. Just because she is a role model for women working in a mostly male environment. It's partly because of Mary that I would love to be in news someday. :)

I agree. With Lou's blustering, Ted's incompetence, and Murray's sarcasm - I'll give the newsroom the slight edge.

There were quite a few episodes where Rhoda or Phyllis got themselves involved with WJM, the newsroom or one or more of the staff.

Rhoda helps out at the station on election night with reporting results.
Rhoda ends up working with Mary on a program Ted and Sue Ann are hosting.
Phyllis gets a job at WJM as Mary's assistant.
Rhoda helps Mary update the obituaries of Minneapolis residents.
Phyllis decides Ted should run for city council.
Phyllis becomes Lou's real estate agent.
Rhoda dates Lou.
Phyllis' husband, Lars has an affair with Sue Ann.
Rhoda considers applying for a job at WJM.

I liked both, but I liked her home life just a little more especially when Rhoda & Phyllis would show up.

I like the balance, actually. One of the show's biggest assets was the way it showed Mary as a whole person, who had a work and a personal life.

That said, if I HAD to decide between one, I'd say the work scenes were always a bit more crisp because of the interaction of the characters.

I agree, the scenes in the newsroom were often more interesting and funny.
