Wesley Snipes Ordered to Surrender to Start Prison Term
Nov 19, 2010
by Joyce Eng

A federal judge has ordered Wesley Snipes to surrender to authorities Friday to start a three-year prison term for a tax evasion conviction, Reuters reports.

U.S. District Judge Terrell Hodges rejected the actor's bid for a new trial, ruling that Snipes had a fair trial. "The time has come for the judgment to be enforced," Hodges said.

Snipes was convicted in April 2008 in Ocala, Fla., on three misdemeanor charges of failing to file his income tax returns from 1991 to 2001. He had been free on bond while appealing.

His attorney, Daniel Meachum, argued that the original trial was biased and that the prosecution's main witness had his own criminal problems.

It was not immediately clear when or where Snipes would begin serving his prison time.

He's a sad brother. I don't understand why he didn't file his income taxes. Does he think just because he's a celebrity that he shouldn't have to pay taxes like everybody else? LOL. He's gonna be in prison for 3 wasted years when he could've been using that time to make movies. I guess director Spike Lee won't be using him to play James Brown now in his movie he was gonna do about r&b singer James Brown LOL.

The last I heard is that he has turned himself in and will do time in a federal prison. For security reasons it was not mentioned in public on where he will be held.

I heard that not many people wanted to work with him because he said that he could not answer certain questions about finances due to his current legal problems. That is probably why his career in recent years, post-Blade films, have mostly been independent or direct-to-DVD movies.

Turns out that Snipes is NOT in any custody and is still fighting these charges. He was not given a specific date in order to surrender by.

On Tuesday (yesterday the 23rd) his attorneys asked the court for bail "pending the filing and disposition" of a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court to hear his case.

They want to take this to the high courts.

His ass is going to prison LOL. So he might as well forget about still fighting the charges. What a shame because he's a good actor. I was kinda upset he got killed in Brooklyn's Finest movie. I got his movies White Men Can't Jump, Jungle Fever, New Jack City. Those are my favorite movies of his.

by Gina DiNunno

Wesley Snipes has been ordered to report to a Pennsylvania prison no later than Dec. 9 to begin his three-year sentence on tax-evasion charges, according to Reuters.

Snipes, who was convicted for willful failure to file federal income tax returns, was denied a motion on Wednesday to remain free while appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court .

The 48-year-old actor has until noon on Dec. 9 to surrender himself to the Federal Correction Institution McKean of Lewis Run, Penn. — a medium-security facility for men with an adjacent satellite prison camp for minimum-security male inmates.

Snipes was convicted in April 2008 in Ocala, Fla., on three misdemeanor charges of failing to file his income tax returns from 1991 to 2001.

Wesley Snipes Reports to Pennsylvania Prison
By Sara Hammel
Thursday December 09, 2010

Wesley Snipes has reported to a federal prison in Pennsylvania to begin serving a three-year sentence for failing to file his taxes.

The actor, 48, was convicted in April 2008 of three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file income taxes.

After two years of unsuccessful appeals, Snipes accepted his fate and, on Thursday, turned in his street clothes for a prison uniform at the McKean Federal Correctional Institution in Lewis Run, Pa.

Snipes will eventually settle into the adjacent minimum security prison camp, according to Federal Bureau of Prison spokesman Edmond Ross, ABC News reports.

Ross added that Snipes, who surrendered around noon on Thursday, was processed "without incident" and will be assigned a bunk after he completes inmate orientation.

Snipes was asked by CNN's Larry King if he was nervous about going to prison and admitted his trepidation about doing time.

"I think any man would be nervous," Snipes said.

"Given the length of time that they are suggesting that I be away from my family, away from my profession, away from my ability to provide for my family and for those who have depended upon me to contribute to society ... I think anyone would be nervous about that."

It's about time he's in prison. I wonder how much of his sentence he'll actually have to serve.
