It's Official: Claire Danes To Star In Showtime's Drama Pilot "Homeland"

Showtime had been courting Claire Danes for the female lead in its drama pilot "Homeland". Now the Emmy winner has closed a deal to star in the pilot from "24" executive producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa.

This will be her first series project since the show that helped launch her career, ABC's "My So-Called Life".


In August, Danes won an Emmy for starring in the title role of the HBO biopic Temple Grandin.




Loosely based on Gideon Raff’s Israeli series "Prisoners of War", Showtime's "Homeland" centers on an American soldier taken prisoner during the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Danes will play Carrie Anderson, a driven CIA officer battling her own psychological demons.

One thing is clear from this first look at "Homeland" -- this isn't Showtime's typical quirky, female-driven series. Far from it.



In the just-released three-minute scene, we get our first look at Claire Danes as a very suspicious CIA officer. After a presumed-dead American POW (Damian Lewis) is found in the Middle East, Danes' character voices her concerns over his possible connection to terrorists.

Look for Mandy Patinkin as Saul, a CIA veteran and mentor to Danes' character.

The new series starts production this summer.

Showtime's kicking it up a notch with its new series, "Homeland".

The political thriller starring Claire Danes, Mandy Patinkin and Damian Lewis tells the story of an American POW who is rescued from the Middle East ... but was he released intentionally?




In this new trailer, Danes' character, Carrie Anderson works diligently to put her suspicions at ease. Was Scott Brody (Lewis) released for a reason? Has he been turned against the U.S.?

"Homeland" comes from "24" executive producer Howard Gordon and is based on the Israeli TV series "Prisoners of War".

Have they announced when the show is going to premiere?

"Homeland" will premiere on Sun, October 2, 2011 at 10PM.

It will air after the "Dexter" Season 6 premiere at 9PM.

I first watched Homeland 5 years ago; then I decided to binge watch it again more recently. I'm finishing up the 8th Season; and a lot more into it than I was before.

I don't see any more recent posts or activity - could someone tell me if there is another forum for repeat watchers???
