We all know Mary originally was supposed to be a divorcee or a widow. Would the show been any different if they actually went through with that? Was it really that big of a deal?

Well, I sort of think it would've been a little different, at least. B/c I'm sure they would've shown her ex and they would've had to explain why they divorced. Plus I think her never having been married gave Mary a little more innocence in the beginning.

But that's my 2 cents. :)

The first episode would have been different because it would have been Mary's ex husband coming to visit instead of her ex boyfriend. After that, I don't think they would have mentioned him too much. And there would be no episode where Mary and Rhoda join the club for divorced people in order to go on a trip to Europe.
