Former Journey frontman Steve Perry has stunned his former band mates by asking to rejoin the group in the wake of the rockers' recent chart revival.
Perry left the band for good in 1998 to embark on a solo career and Filipino singer Arnel Pineda took over vocal duties in 2007. They have since enjoyed renewed success after their power ballad Don't Stop Believin' was covered by the cast of hit TV musical Glee.
And now former frontman Perry allegedly wants to rejoin the band, according to founding member Neal Schon.
The guitarist tells Britain's Daily Star, "He seems to be enjoying the spotlight a little too much. The fact is he's no longer the lead singer. He walked out."
Interesting! I wonder if he still has the vocal chops.

I can understand Neal Schon's feeling about Perry leaving the way he did, but he is out of his mind if he thinks that fans don't want to see him back with Journey.
Honestly, take a survey of Journey fans and what do you think the result would be?
For goodness sake, his replacement imitates his vocals!
And, of course, he will realize how much money they can make with Perry back.

If this happens, I will TOTALLY be first in line to get tickets!!!! Michael - you are 100% correct. Get Steve Perry back (and if they can, Steve Smith on drums) and they will be rolling in dough. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAA!!!!!!

Me too.
The good news is that I would finally get to see Journey with Perry. The bad news is that a Perry reunion tour will ensure outrageous ticket prices.
Stay tuned, kids!;)

True, Monika. True.
But the question remains: Can Perry still sing? He hasn't done much since Journey booted him out in 1998, so I have to wonder if he still has his vocal chops.

That's a good point. I've read in several places that Steve Perry hasn't really sung all that much in the past few years, was more involved in production (he produced the two Journey DVDs that have come out in the past few years) and supervised the score for the Charlize Theron movie Monster (which featured "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Wheel in the Sky"). According to a radio interview he did in San Francisco last month, he has been writing new songs as well. I have no idea if he still has the chops - I guess that remains to be seen!!!
Here are said radio interviews from October 2010:
