Robert Downey Jr. has a nutty new role - he's providing the voice of Mr. Peanut in a new Planters ad campaign.

Mr. Peanut will speak for the very first time as part of an image makeover and the "Sherlock Holmes" and "Iron Man" star will give him a voice.

Kris Wixom, a creative director at Being, the advertising company behind the campaign, tells the New York Times that Downey, Jr. was chosen because of his "everyman suaveness" and because he has "a voice that could wear the top hat, monocle and cane and still feel contemporary and cool."

The animated commercials will begin airing on Tuesday.

OOO! The Nutcracker got pwned!

Looks like the Mouse King would side with Mr. Peanut now rather than the Nutcracker Prince!

As far as I'm concerned let Mr. P speak - nuts are a manistay of my diet now -low in carbs, high in fat but its good fat, decent amt of protein - and they taste great. Peanut butter too! (though I look for sugar reduced lowest carb kinds I can find - yay Mr. P - yay Planter although any peanut brand that has the nutritional breakdown I need is fine by me.

I saw the ad last night. I thinks it's a little creepy, especially
when the nutcracker starts to come towards Mr Peanut. Although I have always hated nutcrackers, I thought they were scary looking as a kid.

Maybe it's the cane and monocle, but I always thought that Mr. Peanut would have a British accent.
