Can you believe it?? I sure can't. October 3, 1961 was the airdate of the first episode. I'm working on several ideas in celebration of the Anniversary, including a possible TV special, and hopefully a commemorative re-release of the 5-season DVD set with some new special material, hopefully to include Dick Van Dyke and the Other Woman and other treasures!

In the meantime, if you're in LA between December 8, 2010 and January 16, 2011, SEE DICK'S ONE-MAN SHOW, "Step In Time" at the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood, CA. It promises to be an amazing event.

Awesome news, I was just thinking about how next year will be the 50th anniversary of DVD! Looking forward to some new goodies, but I hope that if anything special with new bonus material is released that an option of just buying that material is made for fans who already have the complete set and can't afford to repurchase again. Unless, of course, the series is remastered for Blu Ray!!!

yep; it sure is one of the best shows ever!!! It's the only series where I plan to buy all 5 seasons on DVD!!! All the episodes are so good; not 1 cluncker in it's entire run!!

(no, I take that back-I didn't like "THE BAD OLD DAYS" from season 1, also a couple parts of season 3s "THE ALAN BRADY SHOW PRESENTS")

The "worst" episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show are still better than the "best" of almost all TV series!

50 years... wow. Amazing!

I'd also prefer if these new features were released as a separate DVD, but if I had to, I'd buy the s5 box set again just for them. Having a good quality copy of 'Dick Van Dyke and the Other Woman' is a MUST.

The pilot was filmed 50 years ago this Thursday, on JFK's Inauguration Day.

There really ought to be a reunion special! I really liked the "Revisited" special in 2004.

Hard to believe it's been 50 years, but the humor holds up beautifully today, and will forever!
Bravo to all those who had a part in it!!!!

I hope MeTV will do something for the anniversary (I'm sure they will).

Hard to believe this show is 50 years old. Some of the other shows from back then, maybe, but not this one.

Great show but seriously they should have colored the show to bring the young generation to watch it. I know some will say it was in Black and White it should be in black and white but i know people just won't give it a try because it's in black and white. Their no problem having 2 versions.I get the same remarks with awesome shows like The 3 Stooges that young people just don't bother with. They miss a lot of great shows and movies because of the old format it was released.

Wow, 50 years! TDVDS is still one of my favorite shows. A re-release of season 5 would be wonderful. I would definitely buy it.

Besides, it's held up so well over the years. Probably because for the most part, they didn't do shows about current fads, etc. They kept it to family, friendship and work issues - which all are all timeless!! :D

Exactly! Carl Reiner was a genius and made deliberate choices that made TDVDS timeless!
