Out of a 100 players listed Joe Montana was #4 and Peyton Manning was *8I love Jerry Rice, no doubt one of the greatest recievers to ever play the game. But to name him the greatest player of all time... I have to disagree.

I hate these "all time" lists since it is extremely difficult if not impossible to compare players from different eras. More recent players usually top these lists since there careers are more recent in the memories of those compiling these lists than players who played 30 or 40 or 50 years ago. Also there's a lot more pictures and video around to remind us of how current and recent players performed on the field then there is for the older players. I guess what I'm saying is that there is no way to compile a list like this that is fair and unbiased.

Are there any video of Jim Thorpe or Red Grange around? These lists are stupid. Jerry Rice might be the best player in the ESPN Generation. The old timers didn't play under the current rules where everything seems to draw a penalty anymore. They didn't play with the same equipment that protects the players and many played both offense and defense.
