View Full Version : What internet browser do you use?
Marvo301 11-02-2010, 07:04 PM I'm currently using Google Chrome but I'm considering making a change. So I'm curious as to which browser others of you are using. Make me your best sales pitch about your browser to help decide which one to use. Thanks!
Zoneboy 11-02-2010, 07:16 PM Currently Firefox and Opera. Unless you want to be bombarded with pop-unders on this site, I highly suggest avoiding Internet Explorer 8.
JamesG 11-02-2010, 07:27 PM Firefox

Retro4Life 11-02-2010, 08:13 PM Firefox unless a site forces me to use IE 8. Like Charles, I find it attracts a lot less bugs, etc.
waichingliu81 11-02-2010, 08:45 PM firefox, but any of the following are worth a shot too: google chrome, safari, opera
a new one i discovered recently is flock- google it! :) - even though it is a social networking browser for facebook, twitter, you can access many other websites with this one.
as for internet explorer, i've had problems with that one. so atrocious. even though it is the standard default browser from microsoft i get messages such as 'microsoft internet explorer needs to close'. urgh. so annoying.
LuLu Rogers 11-02-2010, 08:49 PM Firefox, so much better than Internet Explorer in my opinion.
Zoneboy 11-02-2010, 08:50 PM Firefox unless a site forces me to use IE 8. Like Charles.
I'm not forced to use IE 8 here. If I were, I probably wouldn't be here at all.

I meant "Like Charles" in regards to finding that IE attracts more bugs. I didn't mean to example this site as one that forces one to use IE.

Oops, sorry for the misunderstanding.
Retro4Life 11-02-2010, 09:13 PM ^ No problem at all. :)

Marvo301 11-02-2010, 10:03 PM Thank-you everyone for your input! So far Firefox seems to be the most popular although I don't know if that equates to it being the best. I.E. is definitely getting the worst reviews. I appreciate your help!

Mac or PC?
Tweety 11-03-2010, 12:34 AM PC and Firefox.
Been using Firefox for a few years now, I liked the features when it came out, especially the tabbed browsing. IE now does that, but it took IE a while to catch up.
Every now and then, I come across a site that requires IE, so that's when I use that one. But usually FFox.
I've tried Safari and Opera, nothing against them, I just didn't see a reason to switch from Firefox.
Re; PC vs Mac... I've heard for many years that Macs are easier to use and have fewer bugs. I think I originally went with PC because of the availability of software. That's not as much of an issue now, and I probably will go Mac some day, but I'm fine with PCs
Marvo301 11-03-2010, 12:46 AM Mac or PC?
PC
I'm not forced to use IE 8 here. If I were, I probably wouldn't be here at all.Actually, IE9, which is still beta (I have been trying it) will block the popups here.
So, like I said, I'm trying IE9. If something doesn't load in it properly (which is rare), I use Firefox, but I don't really care much for it.
Cactus Jack 11-03-2010, 12:59 AM PC
Then Firefox is the best!
Marvo301 11-03-2010, 01:08 AM Thanks again everyone for your help. Your replies are very much appreciated!
spunkygirl 11-03-2010, 01:10 AM I used to use Firefox but it got to the point it was taking forever to open and very slow loading.
Now I use Google Chrome which I LOVE and it's super fast
MrCleveland 11-03-2010, 07:37 AM I use Firefox because you can paste a webpage rather than type the whole damn thing like IE.
Marvo301 11-03-2010, 02:43 PM Thank-you everyone for your help. I have switched to Firefox. :D
waichingliu81 11-03-2010, 03:43 PM you may want to check out the extensions for firefox too, which you can download from here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/
spunkygirl 11-03-2010, 03:45 PM The extensions slow the browser down too much. I have IE, Firefox and Google Chrome on my computer and Firefox is the ONLY browser that is freaking SLOW
browneyes106 11-03-2010, 07:41 PM I use Firefox and Opera for my laptops and I use Opera for my iPod Touch.
Janice 11-03-2010, 08:12 PM Firefox
Fleet 11-03-2010, 08:42 PM Firefox
Me, too... Firefox.
Marvo301 11-03-2010, 10:04 PM Thanks again everyone for your input. Firefox seems to be by far the most popular browser amongst S.O. members and it is the one I am now using.
Crimson and Clover 11-03-2010, 10:45 PM Firefox
Firefox like almost everybody else
waichingliu81 11-04-2010, 11:26 AM The extensions slow the browser down too much. I have IE, Firefox and Google Chrome on my computer and Firefox is the ONLY browser that is freaking SLOW
yes, good point. i never thought about that but you are right. the more extensions you have, the slower your computer gets.

after updating/upgrading Firefox a number of times - especially if you have a lot of or any older extensions - it can become corrupted.
your best bet would be to download the most current version (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html), uninstall Firefox completely, delete your temp files (use CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download)or ATF Cleaner (http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3000-18512_4-89432&ontId=18512_4&spi=41b69d3e527e761cbbc6becede94dca9&lop=link&tag=tdw_dltext<ype=dl_dlnow&pid=549773&mfgId=10032540&merId=10032540&pguid=2yyuEwoOYI0AACe2OcMAAABW&destUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.atribune.org%2Fccount%2Fclick.php%3Fid%3D1)) and then install Firefox from scratch, and then add ONLY the essential extensions that you actually NEED.
another common problem with Firefox (and ALL the other browsers) is that Java and Flash are not very good about housekeeping with their plugins, and older versions WILL cause conflicts. It is not a bad idea to periodically completely uninstall Java (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)and Flash (http://download.cnet.com/Adobe-Flash-Player/3000-2378_4-10001055.html)and then reinstall the most current versions (if you are reinstalling Firefox do this at the same time, uninstall everything first, then reinstall Firefox then Flash and Java last).
Jessica 11-04-2010, 02:00 PM Firefox.

Marvo301 11-04-2010, 06:29 PM Firefox certainly is popular! And now that I'm using it myself I see why!

spunkygirl 03-09-2011, 11:46 AM Was using Google Chrome but it turned out to be crap, so now I'm using Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 12 which is made of awesome cause ♥
YoliUSA 03-09-2011, 04:56 PM Firefox, and Safari on my iPod & iPad.

waichingliu81 03-10-2011, 11:19 PM i switched to google chrome from firefox towards the end of last year, because for some reason, firefox has problems loading pages of a website that i was on.
it happened on numerous times, i was so fed up that i took firefox off and replaced it with chrome and haven't had problems since.
Penny Lane 03-11-2011, 10:35 AM I use Google and I really liked it but lately it crashes a lot. That is so frustrating! So I'll probably go back to Firefox which is good too.
