Along with being the first Hollywood production shot using Betacam cameras, the 1980-1986 ABC sitcom Benson was also the first TV program to make repeated narrative reference to ARPANET, the MIT-Defense Department antecedent of the Internet.

Bob Fraser, co-author of the February 1985 ARPANET episode (“Scenario”) and many others for Benson, The Love Boat and Full House, is busy these days in Burbank planning his first online comedy series. He told FishbowlLA that in order to learn how things work on the Internet (and, more importantly, how content can be successfully sold), he has been dabbling in the often lucrative realm of actor how-to books and DVDs.

The first sign that Fraser, who also appeared on Benson in the recurring role of Senator Leonard Tyler, has got a knack for the Net is the fact that he has eight different URLs listed under the “Official Websites” tab of his IMDB page. Although his blog looks to be out of order, Fraser remains a one-man acting studio.

The 65-year-old dynamo won’t reveal much about his planned web series. But if and when he hits the PR trail, he will likely be the only online content creator in Hollywood who can personally reference both ARPANET and Captain Merrill Stubing. Go Bob!
