View Full Version : What the Heck Happened to Helen Hunt???
Brian Damage 10-29-2010, 11:24 PM She had a successful tv series in 'Mad About You' & even won an Oscar! Now she is nowhere to be found. No movies, no tv....nothing.....
Did Hollywood chew her up & spit her out?

Smartboy 10-30-2010, 12:17 AM You have raised a very good point in this thread! Helen Hunt is my favorite actress of all-times! By the way, the picture of her that you uploaded is very pretty. In any event, during "Mad About You's" seven-years run, it was my absolute favorite TV show! As a lot of you probably know, she auditioned for the role of one of the duaghers in "Parenthood" but lost out to Lauren Graham. As far as I know, this is her second rejection. The other one that I know of is when she auditioned for the part of Katie Kinisky in "Gimme a Break!" back in 1981. In this case, she was beaten out by Kari Michaelson. Now there is a has-been if there ever was one! However, in the first season of "Gimme a Break!" Helen did make one guest appearance. This was as Katie's pregnent friend Valerie. Maybe history could repeat itself by her getting a one-time spot on "Parenthood"! Any ideas on what type of guest-role would be good for her?

WHAAAAAT?
How can a producer/director prefer Lauren Graham (which is good, but compared to Helen  ) over Helen Hunt?

How could she have lost to Lauren Graham when it was Maura Tierney who originally had the part of Sarah Braverman?

No.
Just...no.
lucyandethel 01-11-2011, 04:00 AM She has a reputation of being unpleasant. I worked on the Culver Studios lot in Culver City Ca where Mad About You was shot. She was affectionately known by everyone as ... well, her last name was changed to rhyme with a derogatory term for a vagina.....
Rambo Stallone 02-11-2011, 05:14 AM I always thought she was very overrated and Mad About You lasted at least 4 years to long. I reckon Murray was the star of the show along with Paul.
Rambo Stallone 02-11-2011, 05:20 AM No.
Just...no.
Is that her she always looked to me as a sour puss for some reason same as the actor in Grace Under Fire. She has aged bad big time

Lauren Graham is good and hell pretty for age and seems to be nice also no brainer.
Jessica 02-11-2011, 12:00 PM I was thinking the other day where she's at. I guess she's not that active at the moment.
Smartboy 02-13-2011, 12:55 PM A few posts ago, I mentioned that Helen Hunt is my favorite actress of all-times. Well this statement is still very true and I really miss seeing her! Does anyone out there think there is any chance of her ever getting back into the spotlight?

In 2001, Hunt dodged a bullet. She had filmed a scene for Paul Reiser’s comedy, One Night at McCools. But her scene was cut. One Night was a critical and commercial flop.
But Hunt’s luck ran out when she appeared in Curse of the Jade Scorpion.
Jade Scorpion was a lesser Woody Allen film starring Allen, Hunt and Dan Aykroyd. It was in fact the most expensive film of Woody Allen’s career. But reviews were lukewarm and the movie bombed at the box office.
Around this time, Hunt remarried to TV producer, Matthew Carnahan. Hunt’s output as an actress greatly slowed down as the couple started a family. They had a daughter in 2004.
Considering the fact that Hunt had been steadily working since she was a child, the decision to scale back her career is perfectly understandable. She already had more awards that any reasonable person could ever dream of. She was in the rare position of being able to have it all.
Hunt still works occasionally. She recently directed an episode of Californication. And has appeared in movies like Bobby, Soul Surfer and The Sessions. She also directed her first feature film, 2008′s Then She Found Me.
So what the hell happened? Helen Hunt started working as a child, paid her dues for decades, succeeded beyond anyone’s wildest imagination and then decided to raise a family. Around here, that’s what we call a happy ending.
80sTrivia 09-10-2012, 05:16 AM Helen has had a highly successful career and she earned a fortune from Mad About You, so it is understandable why she decided to scale back from working once she started a family.
Jaqui-Michel 09-10-2012, 12:48 PM Helen Hunt has a movie coming out called The Sessions where she plays a sex therapist and yes guys there there is nudity. If you Google the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) you will see some nice pictures of her at the premiere. There is already already Oscar buzz on her performance.

Thanks for the info! Although I'm not interested at all in the nudity, it's nice to see that she's still acting. I always thought she was really good in whatever she did even though I could never get into Mad About You no matter how hard I tried.
While we're on the subject, "what the heck happened to Paul Reiser's career (http://www.datalounge.com/cgi-bin/iowa/ajax.html?t=9201674#page:showThread,9201674,1)"!?
The real reason you don't hear from Helen Hunt anymore (http://www.looper.com/91462/real-reason-dont-hear-helen-hunt-anymore/)

I just read the article in its entirety. I learned a lot of interesting things. However, there is one thing that I have some question about. According to this report, her daughter is her only child. I have heard from at least two sources that she also has or, at one time had, a son named Mike. Does anyone here know the reality of this situation?

Mike Hunt?! My god, that's a horrible name.
She does have a step-son named Emmett Carnahan.
Also: I've heard she's incredibly mean to her inferiors. I've heard it enough times that I believe it.

In the first place, I find it very hard to picture Helen Hunt being mean to anyone. On top of that, do you know, is her step-son from her ex-husband or from the man that she lived with and who fathered her daughter?

David Berg, Jay Leno's producer, says Helen Hunt refused to appear on the Tonight Show for 14 years because a producer "gently critiqued her performance" (http://nypost.com/2014/06/14/whos-a-diva-who-was-drunk-on-jay-lenos-tonight-show/). Based on that incident, News.com.au called her "the biggest diva (http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/books-magazines/books/new-book-behind-the-curtain-an-insiders-view-of-jay-lenos-tonight-show-exposes-hollywoods-biggest-divas/news-story/966d3d3c57b888964cb9ab0d0e05f4f6)".
And you can read what a worker on the Culver Studios lot says (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showpost.php?p=4509030&postcount=10) in this very thread.

Emmitt is her step-son from her second partnership, the child of producer Matthew Carnahan. (They recently split).

Yesterday, I read in its entirely the article attached to this post. I found it very interesting. The main reason that I read the article is that Helen Hunt has been my favorite actress ever since "Mad About You" first came on the air! I am really hoping that they make an updated version!
Inside Helen Hunt's Quiet Life Today After Stepping Back From Hollywood (https://www.nickiswift.com/1461193/inside-helen-hunt-life-after-hollywood/)
Helen Hunt may not be lighting up Hollywood's marquee like before, but don't think for a second that the "Twister" actor has disappeared completely.
