My own parents wed only a couple of weeks before Rhoda and Joe (the wedding was in 1974, not 1977). Happily, my parents are still married 36 years later, while Rhoda and Joe split only a couple of years later.

Rhoda's wedding was a big mistake. It was a good way to get a new show recognition and high ratings, but things went downhill from there. When the preacher said, 'Speak now or forever hold your peace', Mary should have stood up and said, 'No, Rhoda, don't do it. You'll regret it.'

They should've just had Joe be her long-time steady and then marry them off in the show's final episode. Ahhhh, hindsight...

As far as I'm concerned Rhoda should have never left Minneapolis!

I liked Rhoda's wedding but the producers now say it was a mistake or happened too early.

After Rhoda and Joe split, there was a sadness about Rhoda that never seemed to leave the character, the MTM Rhoda or the Rhoda of the first two seasons of Rhoda, wouldn't have stuck the rude Jack Doyle either.

Are you kidding? If Mary did that, Ida would have killed her! She was already going to kill Phyllis, for not picking her up!:lol:

I was 9 years when this episode originally aired. Memories. lol What killed Rhoda was not the marriage but the divorce. After that, the show just went down hill.
