Forget Sam and Diane or Ross and Rachel, everyone knows that for the past 31 years television’s favorite will-they-won’t-they couple has been eternal roommates Bert and Ernie. And while the two have always seemed fine hiding their forbidden love from the other residents of Sesame Street, recent events suggest Bert has grown tired of living the lie and is ready to throw open the closet door. Maybe he heard it gets better.

Bert tweeted on June 11 at The A-Team premiere, “Ever notice how similar my hair is to Mr. T’s? The only difference is mine is a little more ‘mo,’ a little less ‘hawk.’” Now, Bert may not be the hippest guy on the block, but he is smart enough to realize “mo” is slang for homosexual.

Bert’s even been inviting some of his friends to the Street recently, with appearances from Wanda Sykes and a memorable Neil Patrick Harris playing the “Shoe Fairy.” Maybe they can all work together and try to cheer up that miserable old queen Oscar.

They are probably just trying to get things stirred up to boost ratings.

I don't care so much if they're gay. It's just if they make it official, then it's going to imply they have sex with each other and that's just too weird to think about, lol.

I know a woman who, five years ago, told me she doesn't let her kid watch Sesame Street because it promotes homosexuality in having Bert and Ernie (a gay couple). I really didn't like that woman after that but it looks like she may have been right about Bert and Ernie.

I have the 40th anniversary book of Sesame Street. It says in the book that Bert and Ernie are not gay, they don't exist from the waist down. I'm pretty sure that they were created based on Jim Henson and Frank Oz's real-life friendship. By the way, Bert and Ernie were my favorite Sesame Street characters. I have watched the claymation series 'Bert & Ernie's Great Adventures' with my niece and I really like the job that Steve Whitmire and Eric Jacobson are doing with the voices. They sound so close to Jim and Frank and the chemisty is there.
