View Full Version : Tony Loves Jeannie Marathon Edits
ClassicTVGal 10-24-2010, 04:43 PM I have been semi-watching the TVLand Tony Loves Jeannie marathon this afternoon and I know that stations edit, but has anyone else noticed that a majority of the "cutsie" moments have been cut out?!
Maybe they should rename the marathon, haha.

Oh, I figured they would be edited, but it's always interesting to see what they cut out. Do you know what I mean?
But, yes, I am glad to see it on again, as well. :)
CAJeannieFan57 10-24-2010, 11:11 PM Try the whole first part of the cold open of "Divorce, Genie Style". It took away the whole reason WHY Jeannie wanted to turn into a human. It was so disgusting that I turned off the episode.
They also cut one of the scenes in "Indispensible Jeannie" with Tony and Roger in the bathroom ... extremely funny scene.
If this is what TV Land is going to do to the episodes, I'll keep my DVD's, thanks. But perhaps TV Land's run will interest more people in the series.
Jack77 10-25-2010, 03:33 AM I have the whole series on DVD too, but I thought it would be fun to tape a few episodes off TV Land for the marathon and the 45 Anniversary but after watching a few of the aired episodes, I was just disgusted at what TV Land has done to them. Most of the opening teasers were cut out and it did not make sense where they decided to begin the opening theme. The episodes were sped up to make room for more commercial time and don't get me started on the new generic ending credits quickly flashing by on the bottom of the screen while the damn episode was still playing. That plus we had to have that stupid Harry Loves Lisa ad popping up and also above the TV Land logo. Everything is all about money these days. That's what it has come down too and it's a very very sad. Sure having it on TV Land might attract a whole generation of viewers but they are less likely to find it as funny & entertaining as we did when it aired in much better times. If any new fan is reading this, I urge you to give the series a try on DVD. It really is a wonderful show and if you go out & buy the first season on DVD, you will love it! Season 1-5 of I Dream Of Jeannie is now on sale for $9.99 each at Best Buy till Oct. 30, so this is your chance to own this classic show at such a great price! Try to buy it on DVD and not watch it on TV Land because you will enjoy it much better! Uncut & the way it was originally aired! And you can't beat the price! Only at Best Buy.
TV Knowledge Fan 10-25-2010, 04:08 AM ...many of the opening "teaser scenes" were also eliminated from the "DFS Program Exchange" syndicated version of the series during the '80s and early '90s (including "Divorce, Genie Style"), so I'm used to that. What TV Land is now showing IS different from what WGN America is currently showing {their versions are somewhat more "complete", so I favor those}. So I'm not going to be disappointed after what I've already seen on WGN...it's good that TV Land is showing the series, but they did a much better job six years ago...

Oh, I know how it can be interesting to see what's cut out.
For a casual viewer like myself that isn't super-familiar with the series, though, the edits don't seem that noticable. Regardless of the way it was presented, I'm just glad it's getting exposure. :D

Aren't the DVD's edited versions of the show (admittedly not anywhere near the butcher job TV Land does). What we really need is a TV version of TCM. These shows tell the story of America through the decades and they should be treated with respect.
TV Knowledge Fan 10-27-2010, 02:43 AM "TV Land" had more "respect" for the series they aired, 'Duster'. Anyone who saw those early years KNOW about the "Retromercials" they used to show inbetween (and during) the shows, along with the "Twip" ad parodies, and other little "goodies" {perhaps it was due to the fact they didn't have much advertising during the first year or so}...these days, the people who operate "TV Land" see their shows- including the "reality" series they schedule- as a "commodity", something to be presented inbetween extended commercial breaks. I believe what's now shown is a "50/50" mix of commercials/promos and "program material"..and that's how CBS/VIACOM want it...to make as much money as possible.

MickeyMac 10-27-2010, 05:21 PM In plain English, TVLand has gone to sh*t

Well...I have to be honest and say I like that much better than how they used to do it. When they would shrink the ending to the side of the screen and then have the credits on the other side.
TV Knowledge Fan 11-01-2010, 05:53 PM ..to their closing credits in late 2004- at first, they would show one of their 30 second "Retromercials" on the left side, with the credits squeezed onto the right [which made no sense at all]. Then, they'd identify the number of the episode of the next show they were about to present, with the ubiquious Harry Shearer making pithy comments concerning any "fun facts" involved....or, more often than not, promote an upcoming series or event. Now, they don't even bother with that...just "reconstituted" credits underneath the last 20 seconds of the episode. That's one reason why I rarely watch TV Land anymore.
