What shows were cancelled with out a proper finale? I just purchased Soap, the complete series, which prompted me to post this.

Soap should have had a final episode to "wrap things up" !

I thought The Jeffersons did not get a real finale, and that lasted for just over ten years (Jan 1975-85).

Well honestly most shows that ended before 1980 or so never had a real finale. That only came into vogue in the 1980s (though there are exceptions).

Here's a few ones that come to mind right now:

Star Trek
Bonanza
Gunsmoke
The Munsters
The Addams Family
Bewitched
I Dream of Jeannie
WKRP in Cincinnati
Soap
Family
Welcome Back, Kotter
Lou Grant
The White Shadow
Fantasy Island
The Love Boat
Charlie's Angels
Vega$
Lost in Space
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
Gilligan's Island (not counting the movies)
The Brady Bunch
The Partridge Family
Mork and Mindy
Eight is Enough

I guess the ones that DID have a finale had the advantage of knowing in advance that that would be there final season. MTM and Bob Newhart both made the decision not to continue and therefore could conclude their shows. I think the Odd Couple knew they were being cancelled. Not too many other shows from the 70's had finales.

I know it's a kids' show but I always felt that Land of the Lost should have had a finale. Geez, get those people home before you cancel it!

someone mentioned that "WKRP IN CINNCINATI" never had one.

Wrong, it did. In it, Mrs. Carlson decided to change the stations format from rock n' roll-I forget what to because the time limit that she had agreed to in the pilot was up, and Johnny talked her into keeping the rock n' roll format.

The Wonder Years at least had a little voiceover summary at the end. I remember that Kevin's dad died and Kevin was married with kids.

"I DREAM OF JEANNIE" never did. It was supposed to, but NBC had to change the order of some episodes in the last season because it was prempted for coverage of the Apollo 13 crisis. (if you don't know what that was; watch the Ron Howard movie "APOLLO 13")

Yeah, but it was RUSHED. If ABC had had any brains they would have allowed the series to continue so we could see those events take place. (OK, not all of them; I have reservations about how they'd handle Jack dying! Somebody on the Wonder Years board posted that had TWY lasted another season he would have died of a heart attack in the finale! That would have been too much; perhaps him dying off camera would be more appropriate!)

At least The Incredible Hulk had a final years later in a made for tv movie. Unfortunately the title "The Death of the Incredible Hulk" says it all.

^ I read where there were plans to bring the Hulk back to life after this movie but they were shelved permanently after Bixby died. I didn't mind this movie but I hated it that this ended up being the final statement on the show. Dr. Banner deserved a happy ending. :(

Wiseguy - CBS screwed this show around every season after S1. S2 and S3 didn't start until the mid-season and S4 didn't even get to 13 episodes.

The John Larroquette Show - NBC's constant meddling with this show doomed it every season after S1. S4 made no less than 4 episodes.

All of Jack Webb's shows (Dragnet, Adam-12, Emergency!, etc)

That's true (about plans for a sequel before Bill Bixby's untimely death). But
if it really were going to be the "finale," it would have been nice if they could
have gotten Jack Colvin to play Jack McGee one more time. That would at
least have provided some needed closure.

Well in the case of All in the Family/Archie Bunker's Place, there were already two very emotional farewell episodes, when Mike & Gloria left and when Edith passed away.
