Break out the Ovaltine and wake your Nana! Twentieth Century Fox and Walden Media (the moral scolds behind the Narnia film series) have teamed up to bring comicdom’s most relentlessly unfunny strip to the big screen. Boy just when I was feeling safe after Cathy finally acked her last ack, now I’ve got this to deal with.

After years of pitching woo and hungry for some of that sweet, sweet Marmaduke money, Twentieth Century Fox finally convinced Family Circus creator Bil Keane that what the people of the world needed now was a movie where fat-headed little gnome-children say things like “pasketti and meepballs,” while their dead grandfather glares at them from a cloud. No casting news yet, but I anticipate a Spider-Man like feeding frenzy over which hot new actor and actress will be cast as Jeffy and spectral demon Ida Know. I imagine Daniel Day-Lewis already has the pivotal role of “Dotted Line That Follows Billy Around” sewn up — the man is a professional.

Why don't they donate the money to charity and skip making the movie?

I really can't even forsee this making it into the theaters.
