....it took Sidney Sheldon most of the first season to find "capable directors" after the first 11 episodes, when Gene Nelson left the series....he found Hal Cooper first, whose initial episode was "Is There An Extra Genie in the House?" [1/22/66]. Then, Sidney remembered Claudio Guzman (who originally worked as an art director at Desilu in the late '50s and early '60s), who had previously directed several episodes of "THE PATTY DUKE SHOW" {of which Sidney was head writer} during the 1964-'65 season. Claudio's initial "JEANNIE" episode was "How Lucky Can You Get?" [2/19/66]. And Sheldon was satisfied that he found two alternate directors he could count on to "helm" the series....and they continued into the second season, with Guzman also taking Sidney's chair as producer before that season ended. Cooper left the series following "The Mad Home Wrecker" [11/11/69], with Guzman continuing until the last filmed episode of the series, "Hurricane Jeannie" [4/28/70].

And how about E.W.Swackhamer?I heard on Larry King Live a few years ago when Barbara Eden,Larry Hagman and Bill Daily were on the show, that Larry Hagman said one of his favorite directors was Edward Wolfgang(or something like that)Swackhamer.Or did Swackhamer only do the first season black and white episodes?

...better known by his nickname, "Swack", was an "interim director" in the middle of the first season (he also directed episodes of "HAZEL" and "GIDGET" that season, eventually becoming producer/director of "LOVE ON A ROOFTOP" the following season), while Sidney Sheldon was looking for someone to permanently replace Gene Nelson. "Swack" directed five episodes, seen in December 1965 and January 1966 [including the landmark episode "The Richest Astronaut in the Whole Wide World", his last]. He may have been one of Larry's favorite directors [a close friend of his, Ted Flicker, directed "What House Across the Street?" {12/18/65}, his only assignment for the series], but apparently "Swack" was too busy with other Screen Gems series [including the "ROOFTOP" pilot in December 1965, which became a series on ABC for the fall of '66] to become a permanent director on "JEANNIE".
