Robert Young may have not been perfect in real life, but as Jim Anderson, he proves that usually, Father Knows Best! All 38 episodes of the fifth season are now available on a six disc DVD set DVD as a Shout! Select title (meaning that it isn’t available at traditional media outlets). In the fifth season, everybody is getting older in the family. With Betty already out of high school and Bud graduating from high school at the end of this season, only little Kathy (who isn’t so little by now) remains as a kid by this time. But these changes don’t mean that the family is moving apart. They’re still all together and just as strong as they’ve always been in the fifth season of Father Knows Best!

...when the series moved from NBC back to CBS [Mondays, 8:30pm(et)]-- three years after the network allowed Lorillard Tobacco to drop the series after it was unsuccessful in selling Kent cigarettes in its first season. CBS then realized how much viewers wanted to see it- after a flood of mail demanding its return reached them- and tried to buy the series outright from Robert Young and his partner Eugene Rodney. They refused, making a deal with new sponsor Scott Paper Company to move the series to NBC, where it flourished for three seasons. In the fall of 1958, Scott and Lever Brothers {All, Wisk} co-sponsored the series on CBS, after Lever moved "THE PRICE IS RIGHT" into "FATHER"'s Wednesday night time period on NBC.

I just started watching season 5 and was taken aback to see the Colex logo at the end. And the opening is the one the old Family Channel used for most of the syndicated package that ran in the '80s (and from whence the Colex logo was used).

Skees mentions that there are 4 more episodes of "Window on Main Street"--I have never seen any official confirmation that were only 13 episodes made. The show ran the entire 1960-61 season on CBS, so that would indicate that it has (as many reference books indicate) 36 episodes.

It didn't do too well following "PETE & GLADYS" on Mondays at 8:30pm(et) in the fall of 1961, swapping time periods with repeats of "FATHER KNOWS BEST" in mid-season [which apparently were more popular with viewers, which was one factor in "WINDOW"'s failure to gain a wider audience: they wanted to see Robert Young as "Jim Anderson", not "Cameron Garrett Brooks"], following "THE ALVIN SHOW" on Wednesdays at 8, which wasn't too successful itself.
