Well, when production moved from NY to CA between 2nd and 3rd seasons, we somehow lost Patty's most persistent nemesis, Sue Ellen. At first it appears the new 3rd-season villainess is going to be a gal named Monica, played by one Laura Barton, but she quickly disappears. Although, later in the season, there's a 'new' Monica, played by a pre-"Family Affair" Kathy Garver, but it's hardly clear if it is the same character. Plus, who can even imagine a sweet-tempered (on-screen and off-screen) Kathy Garver being a meanie? That boggles my mind just contemplating it.

Sad not to see Sue Ellen around for the 3rd, though. She was the perfect rival, always prodding Patty with that incredibly smug grin of hers. Which would invariably propel Patty into greater troubles. I thought Kitty Sullivan was pretty terrific as Sue Ellen, hitting just the right tone of obnoxiousness... quite realistic and never over-the-top. Sue Ellen always got her well-earned comeuppance, and despite all her nefariousness, you still couldn't help but kinda sorta like her. At least, as an adversary for plucky Patty.

Whatever happened to the actress who played Sue Ellen? In the reunion movie Cindy Williams was playing Sue Ellen.
