What do you think is the success of the Brady Bunch that it still is popular after 41 years?

It didn't do well in the ratings during the initial run because the target audience, kids, didn't often get to choose what they watched on Friday nights, when they were often under the care of baby sitters who wanted to watch something else.

In syndication it did much better because it came on in the afternoon when kids were more free to choose what they watched.

Back then few households had multiple TVs and with no VCRs or other time shifting devices you either watched it when it was on or not at all.

I never did notice that before, but The Brady Bunch premiered on the fifth anniversary of Gilligan's Island's premiere. I guess Sept. 26 must be an extra-special day in the Schwartz household!
