MrCleveland 09-18-2010, 03:12 PM That looks good...especially the Big Mac! OH Nuts! 09-18-2010, 03:35 PM Sounds like a lot of work to me...but if you have the time and like to cook...the efforts sound like they're worth it - less sat. fat, carbs, cals & sodium. Weight Watchers has a lot of good recipes too but I dislike to cook..although I may try one of their healthier stuffing recipe. (Thanksgiving's gonna be hard as I love to pig out on all the food assoc. with this holiday) waichingliu81 09-18-2010, 04:25 PM Sounds like a lot of work to me...but if you have the time and like to cook...the efforts sound like they're worth it - less sat. fat, carbs, cals & sodium. not to mention less expensive that what you'd normally pay at those fast food places. but yes. besides home cooking is considered to be healthier but also tastier than most restaurant, fast food dishes. HuntingtonM15 09-18-2010, 05:33 PM Once you buy each individual ingredient, I'm not sure how less expensive it would end up being. But they do look better and would probably be healthier. waichingliu81 09-18-2010, 05:46 PM especially as you won't be pumping chemicals and things like MSG to it. Marvo301 09-18-2010, 06:59 PM I'm going to try that Frosty recipe sometime!! Janice 09-19-2010, 06:30 PM Sounds like a lot of work to me. You can say that again. Call in the Top Chefs to cook those recipes, lol. I got tired just reading the recipes, especially knowing the kitchen cleanup facing me if I ever cooked some of these dishes. I think that fast food won't hurt anyone if it's eaten in moderation. I cook cheeseburgers at home. I use lean beef, toss them on the grill, put sliced tomatoes and ketchup on them, and I'm done. JamesG 09-19-2010, 06:41 PM I do similar homemade recipe things with Ramen noodles. I get bored with the generic seasoning they come packaged with and wanted to make it... "more interesting". I've perfected my own version of the "jailhouse burrito" as it's called: Crushed Ramen Noodles w/ packaged seasoning Hot Water Fritos or Doritos Chopped Up Meat Cheese ^Great snack. waichingliu81 09-19-2010, 06:54 PM I think that fast food won't hurt anyone if it's eaten in moderation. I cook cheeseburgers at home. agreed! i guess not all food is bad for us- it's not really about the food being bad but how much of it we consume ourseives. and the less of it, the better, and that it's all done ,as you say, in moderation. OH Nuts! 09-20-2010, 03:05 PM You can say that again. Call in the Top Chefs to cook those recipes, lol. I just don't have the time energy or patience to cook. Popping something healthy into the broiler or microwave is about my speed - and btw- Trader Joe's has a couple of great "low cal" frozen dinners - they make a fish one with beans that's 190 cals and quite good. A salmon filet in the broiler - or some steamed shrimp - are just fine by me as I love both - and - for a snack - a microwaved brand of Trader Joe's 94% fat. reduc. popcorn. (And their salsas - esp. peach chipolte and pineapple rock too - all rel low cal as well) As for fast food, yes eaten in moderation, it can be a nice occassional treat. Sadly, moderation is not a word in my vocab. when it comes to Mc'Donald's etc. --if only it were I wouldn't have to eat the way I do now - but yes you are right for those with good discipline/self-control in this area. OH Nuts! 09-20-2010, 03:09 PM not to mention less expensive that what you'd normally pay at those fast food places. but yes. besides home cooking is considered to be healthier but also tastier than most restaurant, fast food dishes. Yes, it's actually very interested how good things can taste even when cal's are reduced. Some of the switches are rel. painless ones like fat-reduced mayo, high fiber bread (Weight Watcher's & Arnolds make some good ones!), low fat hamburger, fat reduced cheddar/american - these all add up to some significant cal. and other savings. I'm not ready to venture into a fast food place yet - but just simple stuff like getting a nice brand of soup (Trader Joe's sodium red minestrone) for example - and you throw in some spinach, green beans, a little cabbage, and dilute it with water (add 40% or so) and you get a great soup - and it takes seconds - or you put a lean piece of beef, chicken or fish in the broiler - that's about as complicated as I get. But thankfully I like simpler eating - and the food is tasty - even without all the junky corn syrup, sat. fat, sodium, etc. Lee 09-24-2010, 08:22 AM I think that fast food won't hurt anyone if it's eaten in moderation I agree with you. I don't know why some people on here are so paranoid about fast food when there are things that much more immediately destructive to health such as excessive drinking and cigarette smoking. |
