'The Brady Bunch' is back ... sort of.
Mom Carol, a.k.a. Florence Henderson is on this season of 'Dancing With the Stars.' Susan Olsen (Cindy) recently did an episode of 'The Young and the Restless.' And, now, Christopher Knight, who played mischievous middle child Peter, is set to debut on 'The Bold and the Beautiful.'
Knight will play Dr. Andrews, pediatrician to Owen and Bridget's baby, making his 'B&B' debut Weds., Sept. 15, on CBS.
TV Squad chatted with Knight about his return -- yes, return -- to soaps, his favorite episode of 'The Brady Bunch' and more. Read on to see what the TV icon (turned reality TV star, turned soap actor) had to say ...
How'd this gig come about?
I don't know! It's a mystery to me. [Laughs] No, seriously, my agents saw a role on 'B&B' that I was right for and it was a flat-out offer to play Dr. Andrews. I'm very good with children. I don't have any of my own, but I am very good with them.
What's it like to be back in soaps?
It's the same. It's a walk in the park -- except for working with a baby.
You're no stranger to soaps -- you played Leigh Hobson, a contract role, on 'Another World' back in the '80s.
Yes. I left after a year. They brought in some youth and then they stopped. They also brought on Jennifer Runyon to play Sally, but then they stopped [writing for me]. I had just bought a house [back in L.A.], and I was in New York visiting and got this role. We were shooting in Brooklyn. I was severed [from my real life] ... we weren't even in the city. I had a perfect week, though -- I worked two days and had five off, but I didn't know a lot of people.
Did you ever run into Jennifer again?
Yes. She played Cindy in one of our reincarnations of 'The Brady Bunch.'
Susan Olsen just did a stint on 'Y&R' as a school teacher.
Yes. [Adult actors] had to suffer us when we were young. Now, we're the ones working with kids!
Do you have a favorite episode of 'The Brady Bunch'?
I have different favorites for different reasons. Going to Hawaii was great ... I'd never been there. That was a unique experience. I got to torment Maureen [McCormack] in some episodes. Those were fun.
You threw the football that hit Marcia in the famous 'Oh, my nose!' episode.
Well, yes. Ultimately, it was the prop man who was off camera who threw it. I was in school. But Peter broke everything.
Like the lamp ...
Yes. The lamp. The vase. Marcia's nose. He got her friends muddy from the volcano. Peter was the mischievous one. He was the least "Brady" of the Bradys.
Eve Plumb was on 'All My Children,' Maureen was on 'Passions' and Barry Williams was on 'General Hospital.' Mike Lookinland (Bobby) is the only Brady kid not to have done a soap opera. What's he up to?
Mike's been a camera operator. He's making custom concrete vanity counters up in Utah.
Do you ever all get together?
Yes. We've been asked to do autograph signings. We're doing one in New York ... I'll see Mike and Barry there.
What other soaps do you know?
I grew up on 'Dark Shadows.' I watched 'Days of our Lives' and 'GH.' But my favorite soap opera now is 'The Bold and the Beautiful.' The people are terrific and the hours are great!
