Robert has the gorgeous Stephania who is crazy about him and probably married him. He breaks up with her for a little poking are you kidding me he is a total IDIOT!!! Stephania IMO was the prettiest girl he ever dated . A million times prettier & sexier than both of his ex wives. Yet this huge moron breaks up with her says she'is annoying. Robert was out of his mind for breaking up with that gorgeous Stephania.

Looks are only skin deep and if she annoyed him then it was best that he didn't go any further with her and he only had one ex-wife....Joanne and she was a real piece of work! He later married Amy who I thought was perfect for him. Look at how many times they broke up and finally ended up together and made it work. She was able to handle his quirky family and love him for him. As far as Stephania goes, yes I thought she was beauiful, but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder....isn't it? And the thought of Marco being Robert's father in law is quite scary, the guy was so creepy and he had no reason to hate Robert. JMO.

No offense ladies but your looking at it the way women look at it. Most guys go for looks not the inner beauty. As I have heard many times from women men are dawgs. Thats why we would prefer women with the looks and figure like a Stephania.

Well, yeah, I'm looking at it the way a woman would, b/c that's what I am. LOL. And Robert wasn't the type to just go for looks alone. I also don't think Marie would've liked having Stefania around all the time, and that would've made things hard for Robert, too. When a family is that close, it helps to have somebody who fits in.

IMO, and I'm sure ALOT of normal, respectable people will agree with me that if a person acts like a jerk then that very much affects the physical looks of a person and usually it's people like that who could miss out on someone very special. But he certainly demonstrated his dumb (or perhaps a better word, would be jealous) qualites when dealing with Raymond.

He also was not so great with the way he treated Amy. Amy may not have been as physically pretty as Stephania (and even that is up for debate because beauty is in the eye of the beholder) but she was much more supportive and patient with Robert than most gals would have been. And she also had cajones, when Marie would try to be royal b**ch to Amy, Amy stood up for herself.

She was the hottest he was involved in, but Amy was the one he was meant to be with- neither of them were particularly "hot" themselves, but they made a good couple.

I agree with the other posters, she was hot, but looks only go so far... someday those looks are going to fade, but being annoying will not likely, then what do you have left.

I agree..

All men are NOT the same, and I think as you get older you see things differently, and you see beyond just physical looks.

ANd I DO believe you have to be somewhat physically attracted to the person you're with but physical looks aren't everything by far!


On a side note though I DO believe Marie would have like Stefania most of all simply b/c she was Italian.

I noticed at a gathering Stefania was wearing a VERY reveiling outfit and Marie didn't even make any snide comments.

Marco did come around to Robert for half an episode, until Robert broke up with his daughter.

You wouldn't need to feel sorry for Robert since he married Amy, but if I were in his situation, I would've tried harder to make it work with Stefania. She did move across the ocean to be with Robert, and Stefania hadn't done anything to indicate she didn't want to be with him. By that time Amy had already dumped Robert a few times. It's actually a bit of a miracle that they ended up being husband and wife.

Off topic, but I think a better situation for an ELR spinoff would've involved Marco and Stefania, although it could've occurred only after Frank/Peter Boyle passed away. Marco had good relations with both Marie and Frank, as they fought over Marco's friendship in season 6's Odd Man Out. Marco and Marie become a couple after Frank dies, since Frank picked Marco in advance to be Marie's partner if Frank dies first -- a continuation of the Who's Next plot from season 7, when they attend the wake of Marie's choice for Frank. Ray, Debra, and their kids move away, allowing Robert and Amy to stay at their old house, while Marco moves in with Marie and intimidates Robert on a daily basis. Since Marco's around, Stefania comes often to visit her father, Marie, and Amy, who she's friendly with too, and manages to annoy Robert even more.

Stefania's involvement is a little less developed, but maybe the female eye candy she brings could've helped this spinoff get on the air. That was an element missing from the actual proposal of Robert/Amy moving near the rest of the McDougall family. With CBS leaving this proposal unselected for three years, and knowing now how disgraced former CBS boss Les Moonves liked to operate, maybe the Marco/Stefania setup would've stood a better chance of pickup.
