I dont mind paying a little more for single season shows I Really like,example- Doris Day Show.
Shows I like but can wait awhile I will get the box set, example- Gomer Pyle when it is on sale.
It all boils down to how bad you want it and if you can afford it.
Good luck with your collecting :)

The thing that "they get you" with is releasing exclusive content / bonus features on the complete series set after releasing all of the individual seasons.
(They also do this w/ the Blu-ray releases of shows too)
The fans will be more eager to look for a complete series set if it has things on it not released anywhere else.
That is why I didn't buy any of "LOST" because I knew at one point they will be putting out a complete series set w/ exclusive content.
For "The Shield" I did get the complete series set after getting all of the individual seasons.
I traded them with a friend, he gave me a lot of DVDs that he didn't want anymore and I gave him "The Shield" seasons.
I'm thinking about doing the same thing with "24".
I have everything released to date and I may pick up the complete series set and look for someone who wants the season releases. I got them as gifts so it's different than me getting them myself.
(only one I won't give away is a season release that I got autographed from a couple of people who appeared on the show)
So it is really about how much you care about having everything, the money, and also the space to store it.
