Say it ain't so, Joe!

Well, actually Joe Montana did say a lot of what was portrayed in "Rudy," the movie about the famed Notre Dame walk-on, wasn't so. Like the scene in which the players put their jerseys on the coach's desk in protest, to get Rudy into that last game of his career.

Montana made his comments Thursday, when Dan Patrick asked if he was at Notre Dame the same time as Rudy Ruettiger, the little guy with the big heart.

And now the rest of the story.

"It's a movie, remember," Montana said. "Not all that's true.

"The crowd wasn't chanting, nobody threw in their jerseys. He did get in the game. He got carried off.

"Back then, they tried to play someone at the end that all the seniors could get in at the last home game. So he got in, he did get a sack, and then the guys just carried him off, kind of playing around. I won't say it was a joke, but it was playing around.

"You know, he worked his butt off to get where he was and do the things he did, but not any harder than anybody else."

The on Friday's show, Patrick asked current Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly if that jersey scene really happened.

"No, I can't say that," Kelly said. I still think there's Santa Claus. I just think Joe is really trying to sell these Skechers shoes. I think it's going to get him probably on Oprah if he keeps this up."
