Back then,(circa 1998 or so ,I didn't get it until 2000),it was great.NO split-screen(until later in the 2000's),NO itsy bitsy closing credits(when did they begin doing this?),NO off the clock starts and stops of series,(when did they begin doing this?),very little editing,NO reality shows (Yes,I am aware some people like "How'd You Get So Rich",and "She's Got the Look",or whatever.)I used to love Saturday and Sunday Mornings on TVLand, back in the "good old days"(honestly,do we REALLY need "Extreme Makeover:Home Edition"on Saturday, and "The Nanny"marathons on Sunday?Isn't one episode of these shows enough?Yes,I know there are some people who like these shows-)of TVLand. But not anymore.Anyone else feel the same way?Feel free to post.

Yeah, I even remember first reading about TV-Land when plans for it were announced in the newspaper. When it finally became a reality, it's one of the prime reasons I bought a satellite dish in 1996. Initially I was fairly appalled by the constant on-screen logo (those 'constant' on-screen bugs were still pretty new back then, and TV-Land's was jarringly huge). Nonetheless, TV-Land served up a really nice variety of old shows. And they seemed to sincerely express a love of such fare, as demonstrated in their commercials and promos and such. Unlike nowadays, when the network seems downright embarrassed by the small handful of oldies they air, as if they are just creaky time-fillers interfering with their grand plans to be some kind of all-new 'reality' oriented network.

I had some pretty high hopes for TV-Land back in those early years. Once it went to pot, I basically gave up on all tv. I haven't even looked at a schedule in years. Rely strictly on dvd's. It's a shame, because I do miss the impromptu fun of having a network or channel I could turn to at any time of the day, and encounter something I could enjoy.

I remember TVLand had those wonderful retromercials. I also remember SUPER RETRO VISION SATURDAYS with the old cartoons. Back when TVLand started, they had a whole lot of variety on TV. Now they show 1 series like 8 times a day. Stupid! All I have to say is, thank goodness for DVD's. If these cable networks don't stop being dim witted dimmys, we will be attending to a lot of funerals for these cable networks.

Oh, does anyone remember those short segments on TVLand where you would link one actor to another. For example, link Nell Carter to Darius McCrary. Nell Carter starred with Telma Hopkins on GIMME A BREAK. Telma also starred with Darius McCrary on Family Matters.

I loved TV Land up until around 2005, when they tried their hand at reality tv with "Chasing Farrah". My family hated it and thankfully it was canceled. Although, I will say that the lineup was still pretty good. Since about 2008, I've rarely checked out much of the network. The classics aren't really given decent timeslots during the day anymore and just seem like filler. Plus, I despise many of the other practices that the channel does (off-the-clock, Paid Programming, removal of original end credits). The whole network is a mess. Thank god for the alternatives.

Those Retromercials and rare shows were among the reasons TV Land was a channel of choice for me. Today, forget it.

The ONLY things that are any good on TVLand, are "Hot in Cleveland",and the black and white episodes of "Bewitched",(I wish OTHER outlets, like WGNAmerica,AmericanLife TV,or Hallmark would get the rights to these shows.Obviously TVLand has NOT learned that "it's nice to share")

And I forgot to say:The heck with TVLand.Depending on ones' likes of TV shows (I happen to like 1960's TV shows),DVD is the REAL TVLand.

Just about all of the channels under the Nickelodeon banner (Nickelodeon, Nick@Nite, and TeeNick/The N) have gone into serious "Network Decay (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NetworkDecay)" in at least the past two-three years.

Amen. With DVDs, you can watch whatever you want whenever you want to watch it, without logos, bugs, commercials, or microscopic split screen credits.

I don't have huge qualms with the current schedule, but like it was mentioned already - I miss the retromercials, the fun programmings stunts, the clever commercials. Nick at Nite and TV Land used to be SO unique in their marketing and programming but they're just regular old cable channels now.

Also, TV Land continues to fail with more recent shows (except for Everybody Loves Raymond). 3rd Rock, Just Shoot Me, Scrubs, Boston Leagl and The Nanny have all been disappointments

Are they still on the air? By the time I got the network they had been on for 7 years and all of the rare shows were long gone and everything was cut to 22 or 44 minutes. Only a matter of time before they cease to exist, just like TV Land Canada did.

it was good.now, they have 90s shows.I love seeing Bewitched,Bonanza,Little House, and The Brady Bunch and Saturday Morning Retrodaze.I should watch Hot in Cleveland. with Betty White,Wendie ? Valerie Bertenelli or Bert and Ernie as Peter Griffin calls her. I think it also has some reality shows. CN has live action shows, too! it's called Cartoon Nwtwork, not live action network.

I miss their weekend marathons called fandemonium. I couldn't wait til my cable provider carried it, it went great for awhile then went down hill fast.

Fandemonium was awesome. I also loved Twice as Nice and Better Living Through Television.

Maybe they are slowly beginning to realize that viewers to their station, DO NOT LIKE the new stuff ( The Nanny,Scrubs,3rd Rock from the sun,Boston Legal,Just Shoot Me,as has been said previously, were all ratings flops)and prefer the old tried and true classics.(I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched, which will soon be added to TVLand schedule, and hopefully more classic TV shows will) .And maybe, just maybe, they will get rid of those dinky itsy bitsy closing credits (people are sick of them, too),go back to full screen closing credits with NO Split-screen,and NO voice-overs,get rid of off the clock times, less commercials, and have the shows UNEDITED.But that will probably never happen.

They are claiming that the newer shows are bringing in big ratings;like HOT IN CLEVELAND,although I think that it's someone playing with the numbers because how can a dreck like that be #1 in any ratings?!?Sure;the frist week, but what was the ratings by season finale?I can live without 50 hours of seeing the same shows over and over and over and over again!Take a good look at the weekend schedule, and all that you see is 3 shows, but 4 to 5 hours of that show;that's despitable! And these 90 shows everyone seem to love;HATED THEM!!!Almost every last one of them;plus these shows are on 15 other networks,so why does this network needs to show them?!Even if it was my all time favorite,I wouldn't want to see that show 50 times a day. What I wouldn't give for my satalite system to add a good classic network on my system,if one exsist.

And,It could be that they are trying to get rid of "The Nanny",because as of January 17,they are going to replace "Bewitched"with it.Why don't they jettison(get rid of)"The Nanny" and leave "Bewitched"where it is?"I Dream of Jeannie"and "Bewitched"make a good combo.Look at WGN.They air both,back-to-back(And I wish they'd air the black and white "Bewitched" gems)But "I Dream of "Jeannie" and "The Nanny"?I don't think so.Next thing you know,TVLand will probably get rid of "I Dream of Jeannie".And a question:is there any show that TVLand airs WITHOUT the itsy-bitsy credits at the end,and with full-screen credits? In short, now with "The Nanny" replacing "Bewitched",except for "Hot in Cleveland",and maybe the new "Retired at 35",which looks good,TVLand leaves a lot to be desired, and isn't the way it was in the good old days.

In its early days, I also recall TV-Land on weekend afternoons running quite a number of interesting rarities, like "Richard Diamond," "The Rogues," "Trackdown," "The Loner," "The Detectives," "Felony Squad," "My Mother the Car," "Honey West," "Judd for the Defense," and things like that. Never the entire runs of these series, but a smattering of episodes. It was fun, because you never quite knew what they'd dig up next. It made you always want to turn on the tv, and see what they were up to. TV-Land had its own distinct identity. Nowadays, I hardly recognize it as any different from two dozen other tired, banal networks. Indeed, the whole current line-up of available channels resembles little more than an unwieldly and amorphous blob of dreck.

Thank goodness for dvd's!

Is it feasable to say classic tv on dvd killed TVLand as we know it? I own Bewitched the complete series, and when I see it on cable, all chopped up and sped up, its unwatchable. That's probably the case with several tv series.

Maybe they should focus on shows that can't seem to get released like The Wonder Years,WKRP in Cincinatti etc.

yes, because I read somewhere that that's part of their excuse as to why they got away from the good ol' days.

That's pretty lame if you ask me.

I remember, a couple time they even showed a couple episodes of "MR. TERIFFIC"-a show which is NEVER, NEVER, NEVER shown ANYWHERE!!! (exept in Germany, where it's a big hit) and; from what I hear, never will be.:( :( :( (and will never even be released on DVD).

I remember it in the early 2000's and it was great. Now it totally sucks. The only things on it worth watching are Andy Griffith, All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Good Times, The Jeffersons, and Three's Company. I like Everybody Loves Raymond and the Nanny as well, but they show way too much of it. All these TV Land original shows are nothing but crap. And those credit crunches are one of my biggest pet peeves. I hate it when they do that and I can't hear the music that I want to hear. And this off the clock programming is just plain stupid. Why would they do that? I'm just glad Antenna TV came around. It is so much better.

So whats AntennaTV like? (My provider hasn't picked it up yet) Do they broadcast their shows the way they're supposed to be shown?

Antenna TV is a lot better. No credit crunches or voiceovers, and very short commercial breaks. They show movies in the morning which don't really interest me, but great sitcoms from the 50s-90s in the afternoon and at night.

I think that is probably partially correct. For Christmas my daughter got me the first season of Bonanza on DVD. Picture quality is great, no ads, no cuts, no irritating pop-ups in the middle of the show to advertize thier latest reality show. I can also watch it anytime I want to without a 'schedule'.

Also, I have Netflix Streaming service for around $9 a month and that has some good classic shows on it. I can watch complete episodes of The Munsters, The Addams Family, Dick Van Dyke, Leave it to Beaver, Route 66 etc. all on my Wii or PS3. Plus, I notice more and more of the higher end tv's that have internet capabilities and apps for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon VOD etc. And of course there's always Antenna TV, Retro TV, ME-TV and This-TV free OTA. I practically only keep cable for a few stations (TCM, The Hub, CNN, ESPN)

Overall, I think TVLand has lost their variety. Ten years ago, they had a good variety of shows from different decades. When they used to do their Merrythons, they aired some Christmas episodes from shows that were not even airing on their network at the time. For instance, airing The Nanny 12 times in a row? Thats a little redundant. I do like The Nanny, but I do not want to watch it that much.

SOMEBODY IMPORTANT(whoever that is)must be watching the overdose of "The Nanny"on Saturday and Sunday Mornings, and the huge amounts of "Everybody Loves Raymond" that TVLand airs, and remember in the mid 2000's,TVLand had a wide-variety of shows on Saturday and Sunday Mornings? Now on Saturday and Sunday Mornings there is nothing. As the song goes "Those were the days,my friend,we thought they'd never end...."But unfortunately, they have.

For TV Land executives to say that the reason why TV Land doesnt show old shows because of DVD, Hulu, Netflix etc., I dont by it for a second. They are just too lazy to show old programs. I mean when you see these hours of marathons of tv shows (Roseanne, Fresh Prince which finally they stopped doing) to now with Everybody Loves Raymond and The Nanny, I think its just lazy on there parts. They should take the time to think of what to put on or put in some effort because its obvious from the all the posts here, that TV Land stinks.
