"CSI" Books "Battlestar Galactica's" Katee Sackhoff

"Battlestar Galactica" alum Katee Sackhoff is joining the cast of "CSI" in a potentially recurring role, a CBS rep confirmed.


Sackhoff will play Detective Reed, a smart investigator who doesn't do well with sensitivity. Her first episode is slated to air during November sweeps, according to Entertainment Weekly, which first reported the news.





Sackhoff was reportedly close to joining the veteran CBS procedural in 2008 when originating cast member Jorja Fox left the series.

The producers, however, went another route, and Fox has since returned to the show on a recurring basis.





"CSI" returns Thursday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c on CBS.

Katee Sackhoff to Stay on "CSI"?

After pursuing Katee Sackhoff for several years, "CSI" executive producer Carol Mendelsohn tells TV Guide Magazine that the "Battlestar Galactica" actress is heading to Vegas for November sweeps — and maybe a little longer.

"Katee's filming an episode right now, and hopefully an arc, and maybe more than that," Mendelsohn told us at the Paley Fall Preview Party for CBS on September 10.

"My fingers are crossed that it could turn into something more. We have to wait and see."






Sackhoff joins "CSI" as Dt. Frankie Reed, who will butt heads with Nick (George Eads) and the other CSIs.

"I've found that things that are meant to be work themselves out when they're supposed to," says Mendelsohn.

"You can't force it. It was just the perfect time. We had this idea for a great character and the second we started talking about this new detective we said, 'Katee!', and she's really happy."

Katee Sackhoff joins "CSI" for a November sweeps episode as Det. Frankie Reed, a tough cop who's called in to help the CSI team when a college student ends up dead.

"She's kind of a badass," Sackhoff tells TV Guide Magazine. "One of my favorite scenes is when she says she's been working on her sensitivity, and a second later, she kicks down a door."




Executive Producer Carol Mendelsohn hopes Sackhoff's role will last for more than one episode but despite enjoying the gig, Sackhoff says it's too early to determine Detective Reed's fate.
