WHOA! :D

Hardcastle and McCormick is coming to Me-Too!

Sucks that Me-TV is losing a ton of shows now, just as I'm possibly getting ready to move ot Florida next year, which is sad though. Double sucks that the Hillbilly trilogy showsare all gone now. Even more weird is that The Honemooners is gone now, since it's been onsince Me-TV's launched in 2005.

We have our own version of Me-TV here in Milwaukee on one of our Weigel owned stations, and it seems to be almost abandoned. The schedule rarely changes, and when it does they don't update the promos. It's a very sloppy operation, I don't know why they don't just simulcast the Chicago version.

Do you get MeToo over by you in Milwaukee yet? Just curious if you guys finally got a MeToo channels like Chicago's. :)

Not yet, and I'm not holding my breath. Me-TV currently airs on its own channel, 49.1, which Weigel bought a couple of years ago for $3 million and upgraded to a full power station.

About a year ago they added subchannels 49.2 - 49.5, and I thought Me-Too would soon follow. But so far those subchannels are nothing but color bars. Now with RTV in this market, I'm not sure Weigel has any incentive to start a Me-Too in Milwaukee. And seeing how they are neglecting Me-TV, they could very well be regretting their purchase of channel 49. But I hope I'm wrong!

Hmm, that's interesting that they made Me-TV their own channel; sounds cool to me :) I'd think at one point down the line, you'll get MeToo over there in Milwaukee and then do the rotation of shows like they do on the Chicago MeTV/MeToo subchannels.

I'm sorta curious how MeTV and MeToo will both fair when WGN comes along this January with their classic shows subchannel "Antenna TV". Could be interesting to see both sets in action.

I wish I could find out the ratings for stations like MeTV and RTV around here. I know when MeTV first started in 2008, most of the commercials were PSA's and "retromercials". Now its about half "real" commercials. The lack of attention to the channel is reflected in their website: http://www.metvmilwaukee.com/

It's very spartan, and the schedule is out-of-date by at least 6 months.

So, that's not the schedule that they are airing any more? I mean, is it anywhere close to the one they are airing at the moment?

So, that's not the schedule that they are airing any more? I mean, is it anywhere close to the one they are airing at the moment?

It's about 75% accurate. They are mostly timeslot changes, the only new shows I know of are Bob Newhart at 9PM weeknights and Battlestar Galactica at 6PM Saturdays. But all of the "Coming up next on MeTV" promos are still using the schedule listed on the website, which hasn't been in effect for at least 6 months.

Me TV Milwaukee is in the process of changing up its lineup once again, and they are adding more shows, including Rockford Files, Gomer Pyle, Star Trek, Get Smart and Courtship of Eddies Father. Mork & Mindy and My Favorite Martian are being brought back. Most of the overnight hours and weekend evenings are being completely rescheduled, as well as random timeslots throughout the day - probably 60% of the schedule in total. Of course, there's no official announcement of any of this - I discovered it through TitanTV listings.

WEIGEL BROADCASTING CO. ANNOUNCES NEW TV STATION IN CHICAGO:
WCUU – The U Too!

10/5/10 – Weigel Broadcasting Co. announces the newest TV station to join its group: The U Too! The U Too will broadcast over-the-air on digital WCIU-TV 26.5 and 26.6 as well as analog WCUU-CA, Channel 48. The newest sister-station in the Weigel Broadcasting Co. line-up will be an extension of Chicago’s first independent station, WCIU, The U. Launch of The U Too will take place in early December of 2010.

Weigel Broadcasting Co. has been a leader in the market with creative development of the digital spectrum and the use of low power television signals. Executive Vice President Neal Sabin commented, “This is a natural step for us. Just the way we brought more classic television programming to Chicago when we extended the Me-TV brand with the launch of Me-Too, we now will extend The U’s brand with The U Too. This will allow us to feature some of the The U’s signature programs in different time periods and add new programs to the schedule. We will now be able to air programming from independent producers that fits our brand as well as provide another opportunity to reach a new audience for existing and future clients.”

Brad Lesak, general sales manager for Weigel Broadcasting Co.’s Chicago stations added, “We believe this will compliment, not cannibalize, our audience. It will also allow us to sell creatively between the two “U” franchises, just like we do with Me-TV and Me-Too.”

Here’s where Chicago will be able to watch Weigel’s newest venture. For viewers watching with an antenna, the over-the-air digital position will be WCIU-TV 26.5 and 26.6. The U Too will also be available on analog WCUU-CA, Channel 48. Cable subscribers will see The U Too on Comcast 248, RCN 35 and WOW 170. At this time, The U Too will not be available for Dish Network and DirecTV customers.

When The U Too launches, FBT, the foreign language digital stream, will no longer be available. Weigel Broadcasting Co. is continuing conversations regarding other distribution options with the few independent producers of the foreign language productions seen on FBT.

Weigel Broadcasting Co. and affiliate companies own and operate WCIU-TV/26.1, Me-TV/ WCIU-TV 26.2, Me-Too/WCIU-TV 26.3, THIS/WCIU-TV 26.4, FBT/WCIU-TV 26.6, WWME-CA 23, Me-Too/WMEU-CA 48 in Chicago, IL, CBS/WDJT-TV 58.1, WMLW/WDJT-TV 58.2, THIS/WDJT-TV 58.3, Shorewest TV/WDJT-TV 58.4, WMLW-CA 41, WMLW-LD 41.1, Me-TV/WBME-TV 49.1, Telemundo/WBME-TV 49.4, Telemundo/WYTU-LD 63.1, Me-TV/WYTU-LP 63 in Milwaukee, WI, and ABC/WBND-TV 57.1, CW/WCWW-TV 25.1, My Michiana/WMYS-TV 69.1, ABC/WBND-LP 57, CW/WCWW-LP 25, My Michiana/WMYS-LP 69 in South Bend, IN.

My Network TV locally has made some changes where I'm at -- primarily on weekdays they now show a full hour of The Honeymooners (replacing Gomer Pyle and Superman), but the big changes are on the weekends.

On Saturday mornings I get a full hour of Courtship of Eddie's Father. Already I caught the only episode from the run I had never seen. Woo-hoo! Then there are two full hours of Petticoat Junction, first in the morning (Season 7) and in the evening (Season 3). Two eps of Bonanza on Saturday, coupled with 5 (one Mon-Fri) means they're airing 7 eps of the series per week...! My Favorite Martian is no longer on weekdays, but 4 episodes appear every Saturday. On Sundays, Naked City and Route 66 are gone, but still pop up in the overnight hours.

Recently I caught the episode of Naked City with Suzanne Pleshette, Al "Grandpa Munster" Lewis, and the guy who later played Harry Mudd. Great episode! What a cast. Not to mention Paul Burke and the beautiful Nancy Malone.

Since I'll be moving to Florida early next year, can anyone give me the scoop on any classic shows airing out there?

And also will anyone be able to provide updates to Me-Tv and Me-Too for 2011?

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

AMAZING! I'm surprised they are launching so quickly. I think DTV is going to be the future of older television shows.

I wonder how quickly they will sign affiliates? Antenna TV has an advantage with the Tribune O&O's in bigger markets. I'm holding my breath about getting it any time soon, the only decent subchannel I have is RTV. I would be more than happy to give it up to get this. I would think the schedules in Chicago and Milwaukee will eventually be the same as the national one.

I sure hope we don't get switched to the national schedule! Way too many westerns and not enough 70's/80's sitcoms. I'm referring to Roseanne, Courtship of Eddie's father, and mork and mindy just to name a few which aren't in the national feed but on the Milwaukee affiliate.

BTW...I think this announcement plus the start of Antenna TV spells doom for RTV. They had a hard enough time financially when they were a monopoly, now they suddenly have 2 competitors with very deep pockets.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some channels replace RTV with Antenna TV or Me-TV. RTV hasn't always been bad, though - remember, they started out with CBS and Universal shows and were excellent. Now it's a cheap, poorly run, disorganized mess. The customized schedule concept isn't great, either because they can't do special marathons, stunts, etc.

Now, somebody needs to hook up with Warner and we're set....

Well, if they follow through on that, the national feed will most likely air on 49.2. MeTV Milwaukee has its own $7 million station on 49.1.

But I agree with you about Antenna TV...I'll be watching that much more than MeTV once it starts airing! Do you know if Antenna TV will show all original episodes each day, or will there be replays? Ie. Three's company airs back-to-back 5 Pm and 12AM...will there be 4 episodes or 2 episodes played twice?

If they announce that a ME-TV Canada is coming soon, guess who I'll pick?

I was just thinking that if you could somehow magically combine the two of them and fit them into one mega-channel, using only the sitcoms that they've scheduled, you wouldn't need a remote. Just leave the set on that one spot and watch it all day! Here, let me show you:

Personally, I prefer Me-TV to Antenna as Me reminds me a lot of TV Land/Nick at Nite in the 1990s with their show selections. Antenna TV has a lot of shows already in syndication (The Nanny and Sanford and Son are seen enough and will be airing at the same time they will be on cable) and Three's Company, All in the Family, and Good Times are in syndication also. Bottom line, save for Maude, most of the shows on Antenna TV that I like are already in syndication somewhere so it's not extremely special to me like Me-TV (I like that they won't be airing movies). I'll give RTV up any day for Me TV.

I'll be lucky if I get Me TV or Antenna TV........the locals here have yet to exploit using their digital subchannels. The ABC here has the CW on.2, the NBC uses a weather format not unlike the defunct Weather Plus. CBS currently nothing. Fox here on.2 is MyNetTV. the old CW became This TV. The old This TV became Untamed Sports TV. So there is room for expansion... RTV here is it's own OTA station. I agree that RTV better start shaking in its boots...the fact they haven't expanded much in their library offerings and they didn't seize the chance to grab the CBS/Paramount library back will hurt them IMO.

Only Three's Company is airing for a second hour on Antenna TV and it will be an encore of the 5pm hour. Which is fine with me! If my math is correct, The Ropers will start appearing on one of the half-hours by the week of Feb. 14.

Yeah, I guess the better way to phrase what I was trying to say is that most of the Antenna shows that I am really interested in are already airing (except for Maude, finally and Three's a Crowd/The Ropers which I want to try out). I won't hesitate giving the other shows another chance, though.

Yeah, my market's very spread out with the signals far apart (Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville, #36) so the CW affiliate uses .2 to relay the CBS and the ABC uses its .2 to relay the weak MNTV affiliate. My CBS affil. has RTV on its .2 and NBC has weather on its. I have 6 commercial stations so hopefully they will start making better use of their subchannels.

Maybe RTV should try to get the Warner library, but I doubt they have the money. That's the only one left that is available and is a very good one, IMO...I like dramas, but that's almost all they air so it gets tiring after a while. They also need to unify their affiliates.

Question...will these channels like Me-TV and Antenna TV have ratings? Will they be measured like ION, MyNet, Univision, etc? I don't consider them any different from ION except that they are on subchannels...and we have seen plenty of ratings info from them. It will be interesting to see what shows do well and which don't, I'm sure changes will be made as things are established.

The only thing about MeTV I would change is maybe swap out some of the hour-long shows for Get Smart and The Brady Bunch on weekdays. I guess the "Me TV Loves Lucy" thing will be The Lucy Show and I Love Lucy or something?

Chris, not sure if ratings will be a big deal for Antenna TV/Me-TV since they are digital substations. It it is harder to find these stations, especially if your cable company doesn't carry it. The only other way to see these stations are if you don't have cable and have just over-the-air.

dragonlight, I don't think Me-Too Chicago is changing their line-up on Dec. 8, but if they do, it will be posted here. And I don't know what is the status of The U Too. That will be a WCIU-2 type station. It is set to launch in early December, so you have still have time.

I hope channels like ME-TV and Antenna TV are not stupid enough to go by ratings.Classic tv shows always had and always will have a big audience and many viewers.Ratings often do not reflect that.As long as these new tv stations do not over-do the commercials, and keep to a schedule of mainly classic television shows they will be quite successful.

I was told by someone who works in the industry that ratings are assumed to be very insignificant on these digital networks because only 10% or so of households have access to them OTA. The big advantage is that they are very cheap to run, because there is hardly any overhead to run a subchannel. It doesn't take much in the way of ratings to make them profitable for the local station.

I'm actually glad that ratings aren't a big deal - that means if something doesn't live up to the extremely high expectations that cable has (which are harder for older shows to meet), they won't be treated so badly, hopefully.

I have set my rabbit ears up and can actually get all of my locals that way now- so, whenever it comes to my market, I'll be ready, because I'm sure my provider will take their time if they ever add it.

Can anyone in Chicago confirm...

It looks like the current local Me-TV (WWME-CA, WCIU 26.2) will be replaced; with the NATIONAL Me-TV.

A local Me-TV will continue in Chicago, as Me-TV and Me-Too will be combining apparently. This will air on WMEU-CA and WCIU 26.3, replacing Me-Too? Chicago will just have one local "Me" station if this is correct.

I guess This TV will continue on 26.4 and The U Too on 26.5....

Here's my understanding of the "ME" stations in Chicago (as I'm around the surrounding area):
The now local channel on Me-TV 26.2 (WWME) will turn into Me-TV National on the same channel 26.2;then Me-Too (WMEU) will be the local "ME" channel on 26.3 (which will have shows from both Me-TV and Me-Too).

OK, got it. Plus, Me-TV and Me-Too are on the -CA stations also but they are low power. It's confusing in a way, but Weigel knows what they're doing. When you figure all of this out, it makes sense. With Me-TV going national, it makes sense for them to just have one local station.

Today's the 8th, and nothing. Looks like the launch will be the 15th.

26.1 WCIU
26.2 The U Too (changes from local Me-TV (WWME) to The U Too)
26.3 Me-TV (changes from local Me-Too (WMEU) to Me-TV National (at least I think this is the national one))
26.4 Me-Too (changes from This TV to MeToo (local Me-TV))
26.5 This TV (subchannel 26.5 just added)

Unfortunately, Me Too doesn't enjoy as much avaliability as MeTV does, as it is not on satellite.

Milwaukee's website is still not updated. I wonder why they bothered to schedule Roseanne and Star Trek: TNG and not just go with the full national feed- by them doing that, I wonder if they will launch a second channel or not.

UPDATE: As for national Me-TV affiliates... they won't be announced soon. They are just getting started and in most markets have a couple of options that have to be explored and negotiated. So they are not in a rush, and hope people understand this takes more than "flipping a switch" for a broadcaster to commit to programming.

I don't think South Bend is going MeTV.

They aren't really a "MeTV" station, they just air older shows during the day and MyNet in primetime. Here's what TitanTV lists from 12/15 on (current schedule, actually):

7AM Wendy Williams Show
8AM True Hollywood Story
9AM Perry Mason
10AM Bonanza
12PM Gunsmoke
1PM Honeymooners 2X
2PM Cheers 2X
3PM Leave it to Beaver 2X
4PM Little House on the Prairie
5PM Andy Griffith 2X
6PM AFV
7PM Don't Forget The Lyrics! 2X
8PM-10PM MyNetworkTV
10PM Everybody Hates Chris 2X
11PM Meet The Browns 3X
12:30AM Cheaters
1AM Jerry Springer
2AM Steve Wilkos
3AM Judge Mathis
4AM Cold Case
5AM The People's Court

Just thought I'd share. Weekends have some good classics.

Father Knows Best, Dennis the Menace, Hazel, Farmer's Daughter, Gidget, The Flying Nun, Maude, Too Close for Comfort, The Ropers, Three's a Crowd, Here Come the Brides? Heck even Benny Hill. Most of the Me-TV shows have been airing for years that I am kind of tired of them.

I agree with clj2...the shows on Me-TV are much more interesting than what's on Antenna TV. There are more shows on Antenna TV that have been running for years and are available in syndication in my area that I am tired of than there are on Me-TV. Benny Hill was on here a few years ago, even though I don't care for the show.

Only Father Knows Best and Maude look interesting from the Antenna TV lineup. As clj2 pointed out, many of the shows on Antenna TV already air elsewhere.

Of the shows airing on Me-TV, here are the ones we currently cannot get on any other channel in my area:

Marshall Dillon
Dobie Gllis
Gomer Pyle
The Beverly Hillbillies
Petticoat Junction
My Three Sons
I Love Lucy (I'm counting this show as not available because Hallmark rarely shows it)
Perry Mason
Cannon
The Streets of San Francisco
The Big Valley
Rawhide
Hawaii Five-0
Hogan's Heroes
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
The Dick Van Dyke Show
The Bob Newhart Show
The Honeymooners
The Untouchables
Twelve O'Clock High
Combat
Rawhide
Branded
The Guns of Will Sonnett (gosh, I haven't seen this in 20 years)
The Wild Wild West
Taxi
Car 54, Where Are You?
Get Smart
Honey West
Stagecoast West
The Brady Bunch
Family Affair
Me-TV Loves Lucy
The Phil Silvers Show

With the exception of MASH, Cheers, and a few other shows, practically the entire list is shows we can't get here! I would love to see the shows on Me-TV.

There are a few shows that were dropped not too long ago by TV Land (Brady Bunch, Beverly Hillbillies). The Big Valley was on the Westerns Channel here a few years ago.

But MANY of these haven't been on here since TV Land dropped them in the late 90's...that was back when TV Land and Nick at Nite aired real classics.

Some of them were never available here, as far as I know, like Guns of Will Sonnett.

I agree the lineup is much more akin to the old TV Land/Nick lineups back when they were good. I would love to see these shows again.

It's hard to get tired of these when they haven't been available for many years. Maybe in a big market like NY/NJ there are more outlets for these shows.

It doesn't matter, I doubt our area will carry Me-TV or Antenna TV. We're lucky to have finally gotten RTV and This TV.

By the way, I saw the Pink Panther Christmas a few weeks ago on This TV, so December 14 and 15 were not the only air dates for that show on This TV.

How is the new MeTV looking?

Robbie, I totally agree. I can't get those anywhere else either. A lot of those shows haven't been seen in 5 years or more! MeTV just seems a lot like the old NAN/TV Land in shows and by the looks of their promotions. I'm excited about Antenna TV, but other than Maude, Burns and Allen, the 3's Co spinoffs, Father Knows Best, and Hazel, those shows are already seen somewhere else (Sanford and Son, Good Times, AITF, Three's Company, Nanny, MWC, etc). I wonder if MeTV has the rights to The Andy Griffith Show and Family Ties; those are a couple of CBS shows that are missing, and they are drawing from the CBS library.

My mistake. I was thinking for some reason that you meant it would be replacing WMYS-LP's programming (who is also a MyNet affiliate) and they aren't changing things. I wasn't thinking that MeTV would go to a new station.

South Bend will have some classic TV during the day on WMYS-LP (some overlap with MeTV, I wonder if they will change the schedule), and MeTV all of the time! Lucky!

clj2, I used to love the old TV Nick at Nite and TV Land, especially the old TV Land when you could turn it on at any time day or night and get classic programming--no infomercial blocks!

Yeah, a lot of the Antenna TV shows are already airing on TV Land (Sanford and Son, All in the Family, Good Times, Three's Company, and The Nanny). Married with Children airs on TBS. The Andy Griffith Show is also on TV Land but at a time when I rarely get to see it. I guess I like the MeTV schedule better because many of those shows were dropped by TV Land many many years ago and I can't see them anywhere else. I guess it also depends on what channels you already get as to what new channels a person is more interested in seeing.

Many of the really old TV shows like Family Affair and Petticoat Junction were dropped by TV Land exactly two weeks after my cable company finally got the channel. And Gunsmoke had been airing at midnight before my cable company got TV Land, which was a great time for me to watch it; exactly two weeks after we finally got TV Land, Gunsmoke was moved to 6am which was not a good time for me, and it never has returned to late night.

Another thing is, if you really really love a show, it's hard to get tired of it. MeTV seems to have a lot more of the shows I really love.

I would like to see the Antenna TV shows Hazel, Father Knows Best, and Maude.

I REALLY wish we had a non-premium channel like TCM for classic TV that would air the TV shows uncut and commercial-free. At least RTV/RTN shows the full closing credits of its shows, as does ThisTV. It's been a long time since I've heard the closing theme music to most of the classic shows airing on TV Land. When I see a DVD of Bewitched or The Andy Griffith Show, sometimes I watch the closing theme two or three times just because it's been eons since I've seen and/or heard it. It's a disgrace what TV Land has done to the closing credits for the TV shows it airs. You have to decide if you're going to watch the last few minutes of the episode, or the credits that are superimposed, and even then the credits are so small and run by so fast it's hard to read anything. And for what? To run commercials of what's coming up? If I want to know what's coming up, I check the schedule. Bring back the full closing credits!

I'm hoping to have either Me-TV or Antenna TV.....I'm so sick of the lineups here being nothing but talk shows and court shows. RTV is ok, but I'm not that into the drama genre. Having Me TV or Antenna TV would be a great asset to have with RTV and This TV. Shoot, if I had all 4, i would never watch anything else LOL

I hope it doesn't take MeTV forever to get national, lol. THIStv launched with more affiliates with various owners (I believe) and is now seen nationwide pretty much. I hope we hear some affiliates sometime next month. That is an absolute blockbuster library....the best out there, IMO. CBS is excellent. Warner and Sony are decent as well, but not as great for my taste when it comes to older shows.

I still think all of this will kill RTV eventually.

Will we hear of a mass defection of RTV stations deciding that Me-TV or Antenna TV has a better, more audience friendly lineup? Time will tell...I think so. The up and coming networks are just so much better than RTV who has a poor business model and technological issues. Weigel has done a great job with MGM in getting THIS widespread. I think MeTV will see the same success in the next 18 months or so. They have a great track record so far.

I cannot applaud and thank Weigel enough for taking MeTV to this level - they are top-notch company with top-notch programming. Yes, I am rather biased as I love the CBS Television Distribution library. :D

Well, not quite everything! I liked reading both the Antenna TV and MeTV interviews but there was one bit of information that I badly wanted to know but wasn't covered. Right now, one of the biggest questions that keep getting asked among the group here concerns affiliates, specifically will either channel be offered in their hometown and when? I know that in both cases you'll need a little patience since not all the markets have been finalized and it may take a few weeks at the earliest before all the markets are set and the entire US is represented. What I want to know is, if both channels can go national why not make them international and have them reach north of the border? Is having both channels across Canada that much of a pipe dream or can it really be possible? I don't mind waiting but I am very afraid that it could be a long wait ahead.

Pavan
12-28-2010, 09:35 PM
They'd have to secure rights to those series in Canada, too. It would be difficult. It was hard enough securing broadcast rights for the U.S. Some of the older/rare shows (as Neal mentioned in the Me-TV interview) are really expensive on broadcast compared to cable.

I am SO glad MeTV went with the CBS library - so many legacy series. That is probably one of the (if not the) most prestigious libraries there is when it comes to 50s/60s and maybe 70s. I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith, Honeymooners, Dick Van Dyke, Hogan's Heroes, Gunsmoke, Beverly Hillbillies, Get Smart just to name a handful. Sony and 20th had a lot of the great series in the 70s, but CBS still had some good ones in that era (Brady Bunch, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley to name a few).

Like how MTV Networks and Universal do on cable? Or is it different with broadcast?

biffbronson
12-30-2010, 04:30 PM
I can't answer your question for certain, but it's been my experience that broadcast doesn't have to adhere to exclusivity in the same way. For example, in my area both THIS and World Harvest (WHT) are airing The Patty Duke Show and Bat Masterson series.

But I haven't found too much crossover among local Weigel channels, with some exceptions. One channel once aired Coach as a one-shot, half-hour filler when time was open before a sporting event, and that series had always been on a different Weigel station.

Here in Milwaukee, up until about September, they were regularily airing Cheers on channels 41, 49 and 58 (all Weigel owned), mostly in the middle of the night.

Seeing how Weigel/MGM got THIS in a lot of markets through a group deal with Tribune, I am hoping perhaps they will try to get group deals for MeTV. Perhaps they could do something with companies like Media General, Raycom, Post-Newsweek, Gannett, etc. I think their bigger problem is going to be getting in BIG markets because O&O's, who usually own most of the channels in big markets, don't usually carry subchannels other than their own. It would have gone great with the Tribune channels in the bigger markets alongside THIS, but since they have launched Antenna TV that won't happen.

At least they are being careful about who they affiliate with and not getting in with crummy channels that may not run things well. Hopefully we hear affiliation news by the end of the month.

Me-TV officially announces MGM will be handling distribution of the network. Nothing new to us, though (except the Valentine's Day Love American Style marathon):

MGM TO HANDLE NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION OF WEIGEL'S ME-TV CLASSIC TV DIGITAL NETWORK

Channel Features Such All-Time Favorites as "Cheers," "M*A*S*H," “The Dick Van Dyke Show," and "The Bob Newhart Show"

CHICAGO/LOS ANGELES January 4, 2011 - Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) and Weigel Broadcasting Co. announced today plans for the national launch of Me-TV, a television network offering classic television sitcoms, dramas and classic commercials and targeted for digital broadcast stations, it was announced today by Jim Packer, co-President, MGM Worldwide Television and Norman H. Shapiro, President of Weigel Broadcasting.

MGM and Weigel have also worked together on the successful launch of THIStv, the national broadcast movie service. After only two years, THIStv is distributed in more than 85% of the country and in 40 million cable households. With the launch of Me-TV, MGM and Weigel have established a leadership position of providing quality programming to the broadcast digital spectrum.

Me-TV (Memorable Entertainment Television) is already a proven commodity on the local level with its daily dose of classic shows. A local version of Me-TV has been successfully airing on Weigel Broadcasting's WWME in Chicago. WWME and WBME, the Weigel station covering the Milwaukee/Racine metro area, have become the first affiliates of Me-TV, which boasts a dynamite classic TV lineup consisting of "Cheers," "M*A*S*H," "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "The Bob Newhart Show." Me-TV's national distribution will be handled by MGM's domestic television sales force.

"I believe Me-TV will be a perfect complement to THIStv," said Packer of MGM. "With this network launch, we are proud to become the clear leader in the digital broadcast space."

"Me-TV is a terrific companion service to THIStv, or as an option for a station that did not have the opportunity to affiliate with THIStv," added Shapiro of Weigel. "In our markets, we have success airing and selling both Me-TV and THIStv as part of a cluster of viewer and advertiser options. And we are proud, particularly given the present difficult economic times, to be able to provide nationally, on a single channel, some of the best programming ever produced, free for everyone on over-the-air broadcast television.

Commented John Bryan, Executive Vice President, MGM Domestic Television: "Me-TV is a proven concept and has worked for years in Chicago as a ratings hit and an advertising success. We have seen THIStv become a great revenue stream for our affiliates, and we know that Me-TV will do the same. For years, the only growth a station could show was on its existing inventory. In the new age, they can now add channels that local viewers and advertisers seek out."

Me-TV has seen fast growth with audiences who enjoy quality programming. As the network goes national, highlights also include "Laverne & Shirley," "Happy Days," and "Bosom Buddies," which stars a young Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari, as well as the original 'Star Trek" series.

Neal Sabin, executive VP of Weigel Broadcasting, who is directly responsible for Me-TV, said "Me-TV was created to present a wide variety of the iconic series, stars and genres that have defined pop culture and television for decades. Our goal is to present these series with creativity, reverence, and respect for the programs, our viewers and advertisers. We'll have a lot of fun doing so, as we reacquaint the TV generation with the shows they grew up with and introduce them to a new audience searching for comfortable, timeless and memorable entertainment."

The new network is preparing a variety of promotional stunts. To coincide with the new The Green Hornet 3D movie coming to theaters in mid-January, Me-TV is also rolling out the original "Green Hornet" TV series starring Van Williams as The Green Hornet and Bruce Lee as Kato. There’ll be kisses for everyone as Me-TV introduces "Love, American Style" on Valentine's Day. Many more promotional opportunities are planned for the 2011 season. Me-TV will also provide stations with two three-hour blocks of educational and informational programming per week, allowing them to air up to twice the mandated hours of children's educational series.

Interesting (maybe odd) news on the MeTV front:
Someone asked KCTU on facebook, "What happened to MeTV?" And then from KCTU's facebook, it said:
"After we signed the contract, and run the trial period, METV came back and wanted to alter the terms of the contract. The changes were not ones KCTU could live with. Negotiaations are ongoing, but at this time, it's not llooking like METV will play here. We are currently looking for alternatives for programming, and will constantly strive to bring superior shows to our viewers."

So, any thoughts about this? Seems sorta odd to me.

Rob wants to go skiing, Laura worries that he will hurt himself (she dreamed he got hurt) Laura's dream comes true. The phone rings six times, meaning Rob had an accident. Rob tells Jerry that the only part of him that doesn't hurt is his lips! Rob plans to "hide" his body from Laura.

In ref. to KTCU. Makes me wonder about the stability of METV. They may be finding a tough go. Originally planned as a barter service. Are they now requesting cash from the stations? Each market that they enter increases the fees they pay to program distributors. So if the market size is not worth their fees they may chose not to enter that market. Tribune had an advantage because of its O&O. METV has no such advantage.
