I just heard about this? Anybody else know about it? Why didn't it last? What went wrong?

They made a pilot for W*A*L*T*E*R but it wasn't picked up as a series. There was already a M*A*S*H spin off on the air at that time (AfterMash) and it wasn't doing well in the ratings. I don't think the network had the appetite to add a second M*A*S*H spin off to the schedule when the one the already had wasn't doing well. Also it wasn't well written. They basically got rid of all of Radar's previous storylines. He sold his farm in Ottumwa. The woman he married when he guest starred on AfterMash divorced him. I 'd like to think that the network was smart enough to know that the M*A*S*H fan base would never accept all these changes to a beloved character.

Another thing to add is that the W*A*L*T*E*R pilot was aired by CBS as a "special presentation" during the summer of 1984.

and it was only seen in a couple parts of the country, I think the midwest and one other part. The site finest-kind.net has info. and clips from it.

On "W*A*L*T*E*R", Radar was a police officer . Radar really isn't agressive enough to be a police officer .

The entire pilot is on YT. It's...different to say the least.

DIFFERENT? IT'S HORRIBLE!! It's obvious why CBS passed on it.
