Would you consider James Evans to be a "groundbreaking" character? I would, while he scared me as a kid watching the show, as I got older I realized there just hasn't been a character before him or since. He was an angry character that yelled at his wife and kids alot, but he had such a soft side as well. Not to mention funny as heck! LOL

EXACTLY!! He was a faithful husband who loved his wife dearly. He also loved his children but wasn't afraid to discipline them when they got out of line. James Evans was a strong man and John Amos was the perfect choice to play him. Although the show continued to crank out good and funny episodes until it ended in 1979, the show truly was never the same once James was killed off. :(
