For those who remember Day by Day, what were your opinions of it? I thought it was very good and should've lasted longer than it actually did. Thoughts?

Yes I do agree with that statement. I enjoyed watching this show. I think the network treated this show poorly changing it's time slot a couple of times during it's first couple of months on the air before finally burying in on Sunday nights. I also really like the theme song. It's one of my favorite TV theme songs. It was originally written as a Pop standard in the 1940's by Sammy Cahn, Axel Stordahl, and Paul Weston. Clydine Jackson sang the version used for Day By Day's theme.

I enjoyed the show too. I had pretty much forgotten about it, but it was one that I watched every week.

I was kinda surprised when the show was canceled. During season one, the network sure did promote this show. They aired several episodes throughout the week. Even one night after The Cosby Show. I was a kid and was mad because I was wanted to see A Different World.

If this show would have had a long run perhaps Julia Louis Dreyfus wouldn't have been available for the part of Elaine on Seinfeld and perhaps Courtney Thorne Smith wouldn't have played Allison on Melrose Place. So the premature demise of Day by Day may have actually benefited those other shows.

It took me awhile to warm up to it as it replaced My Two Dads on Sunday nights. But it did grow on me and I think it should have lasted longer. It had a great cast. I loved the theme song too. :D

I remember just sort of drifting into this show since the subject matter didn't interest me and being pleasantly surprised. I'm not a huge Linda Kelsey fan, but I liked Douglas Sheehan from his days on General Hospital and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss from SNL. The rest of the cast were unknown to me at the time, but they worked well together. I still can't beleive the little girl, Thora, grew up to become Thora Birch!

So-So Shows With One Great Episode (http://zvbxrpl.blogspot.com/2006/06/so-so-shows-with-one-great-episode.html)

Here's a question for all you TV-viewin' types out there: what are some shows that weren't particularly good overall, but had one episode that you thought was truly great?

The example that I always use is the show "Day By Day." (https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1988-02-29-ca-124-story.html) This show (https://web.archive.org/web/20061031125223/http://www.jumptheshark.com/d/daybyday.htm) never (https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/os-xpm-1988-05-19-0040170146-story.html) amounted to much; it was created by Gary David Goldberg (https://interviews.televisionacademy.com/shows/day-day?clip=25408) and Andy Borowitz; it concerned a couple of high-powered yuppies who decide they want to spend more time with their kids (https://www.csmonitor.com/1988/0225/lday.html), so they move to the suburbs and open a day-care (https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2001-11-18-0111180663-story.html) center out of their home. It was Goldberg's follow-up (https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-BC/BC-1988/BC-1988-08-29.pdf) to "Family Ties" (http://www.poobala.com/dayandfamily.html); instead of a show about '60s hippies adjusting to the '80s world, it was about (https://books.google.com/books?id=w8KztFy6QYwC&pg=PA336&lpg=PA336&dq=%22Day+by+Day%22+1988+NBC&source=bl&ots=AtmTJD8smG&sig=ACfU3U1CPg0EreaFUtIMJ4BECCNccHu9YQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwipieL8ho3-AhVTlWoFHSPiBiQ4UBDoAXoECAMQAw) '80s (http://www.thetvratingsguide.com/2017/07/1988-89-sitcom-scorecard-wga-strike.html) yuppies (https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1988/02/29/nbcs-sunny-day/fe280f6f-0341-41df-aeea-7b62581ea0bb/) trying to find something more in life than career and money. But the writing wasn't anything special, the parents weren't very interesting, and there was no Michael J. Fox or Michael Gross around to elevate (https://www.enterprisenews.com/story/entertainment/2018/10/21/how-julia-louis-dreyfus-quietly/9500074007/) the material.

But the reason a lot of people still sort of remember (https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/545143/forgotten-sequels-to-popular-tv-shows) the show (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_by_Day_(American_TV_series)) was one episode (https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fbradybunchreviewed.wordpress.com%2F2019%2F10%2F27%2Fa-very-brady-episode%2F&psig=AOvVaw3tuLKpV3il6VNonGnjZaWq&ust=1680589054919000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=2ahUKEwjqxKmeiI3-AhV5EN4AHc_jBa4Qr4kDegQIARA8) they did called "A Very Brady Episode" (https://books.google.com/books?id=B6aFDwAAQBAJ&pg=PT209&lpg=PT209&dq=%22Day+by+Day%22+1989+NBC&source=bl&ots=_mPEicron0&sig=ACfU3U2Ew3x_8dSZdNC8Hd2TWTUwCR1PUA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiy8Nyth43-AhXmk2oFHTboDf84HhDoAXoECAIQAw), where the son (https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1989-01-26-8902280517-story.html) (Christopher Daniel Barnes (http://www.fourthgradenothing.com/2011/12/day-by-day-nbc-80s-show-cb-barnes.html)) dreams he's part of the Brady Bunch (he's the long-lost son, Chuck Brady). Most of the "Brady Bunch" (http://greginhollywood.com/throwback-thursday-when-the-brady-bunch-took-over-an-episode-of-late-80s-sitcom-day-by-day-168523) cast (https://interviews.televisionacademy.com/shows/day-day?clip=50035) was recruited for this episode, and it was basically an extended spoof of every "Brady Bunch" cliché, where "Chuck" learned just how appallingly annoying it would be to live in that world. It did everything those Brady Bunch spoof movies did (the movies also featured Christopher Daniel Barnes (https://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/person/10029%7C0/Christopher-Daniel-Barnes), by the way) in one-fourth of the time, and did it better. I haven't seen that episode since it first aired and I still remember it as being hilarious; perhaps it wouldn't hold up if I saw it again, but at that time -- when most mainstream shows still didn't do parodies of other TV shows -- it was fresh and surprising and funny and totally unlike the rest of "Day By Day."

That's my pick for a not-so-great show with a great episode; what are yours?
