I was surprised to see this pic. I never imagined her as a smoker. Did she quit at least?

I know that Mary quit smoking while she was working on the Dick Van Dyke Show which led to a very tense couple of weeks on the set. The picture you posted looks more recent than that so she must have started up again. I hope she's since quit again since I can't imagine it would be very good for her diabetes!

I sure HOPE she hasn't gone back to smoking!! She already has stated publicly that she can't drive anymore due to her illness, and she's married to a doctor, for heaven's sake. Say it ain't so, Mary!!!!

I'm pretty sure she mentioned during one of her Larry King appearances that she'd quit. I would think, w/ her health (and being married to a doctor, no less!) she'd prob. know better by now!

I remember Valerie Harper saying in an interview that she didn't smoke but Mary did during the MTMS.

Mary was interviewed in the 80s on the UK chat show Wogan, they had Dick Van Dyke on a satellite link,he spoke of Mary trying to quit smoking while on his show and being in a bad mood,Mary wasn't too pleased by that comment, quickly adding, she was always nice to everyone.

That picture of Mary with Grant Tinker was clearly from the 70s,a lot more people smoked then, than do now.

Ted Knight was clearly a heavy smoker and sadly, cancer claimed him.

Yes, Mary long ago quit smoking.
She was even a smoker during her "Dick Van Dyke" days. There's even an ep that shows her smoking. And I've seen behind-the-scene photos, as well. And it's even mentioned in her books.

She was also an alcoholic.

I thought Ted was a nonsmoker. I remember he had a problem with one of the co-stars of "Too Close For Comfort", forget whom, being a smoker.

Yeah, that pic is what, maybe 35 years ago?
With her being married to a doctor, her diabetes, what we know about smoking now, and how it's not as cool a thing to do for as many people as it used to be, I sure HOPE she's quit!
In her first book she says she had a two-pack-a-day habit during TDVDS, and maybe that continued on TMTMS.
